In preparation for The Dark Knight Rises movie coming out soon, I've been reading some classic Batman comics, including Year One, an origin story by the great Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli. Of course, I can't read several Batman comics and avoid drawing him. It was inevitable.

This is a sketch using red pen and Higgins India ink (neutral gray and black). For this sketch, I kept in mind a giant bear rearing up and presenting its claws. I did not use any references - it's a bit simplistic, but I think it captures something of what I was aiming for. Drawn straight in red pen - you can see the underdrawing, and a bit of where I was trying to decide the pose, etc. May have spent under an hour on this.
