First off, I'd like to say that this drawing is OLD. I started it maybe 3.5 years ago. But I didn't finish it until yesterday because I almost completely forgot about it.
This was supposed to be for some Challenge dealing with music or song lyrics or whatever. Obviously, I don't remember the exact details since the contest ended years ago. What I do remember is the inspiration for this drawing.
I was listening to my iPod at one point when the song "Name" by the Goo Goo Dolls came on. The lyrics are rather cryptic, and I'm ashamed to say that I don't completely understand the song, but somehow I thought it fit Mello and Near. This is the part of the song that comes to mind (which I'm typing from memory, so forgive me if I get a word or two wrong):
And now we're grown up orphans
That never knew their names
We don't belong to no one
That's a shame
You could hide beside me
Maybe for awhile
And I won't tell no one your name
I won't tell 'em your name
Although I'm not a fan of Near, I could imagine this coming from his point of view. Even though Mello makes it known that hates losing to Near all the time, I think that Near really likes Mello. No, not that way, yaoi fangirls. I mean in a friendly sort of way, even though Near doesn't give off any friendly vibes. At all.
Back to my process making this drawing, I think it took so long on it because (a) I missed the Challenge deadline and (b) I'm not super fond of the subjects. So I had very little motivation to go on. But yesterday, I was digging through my folder of unfinished drawings and found this picture. I just thought, "why not finish it?" So I did.
I keep thinking that I haven't made any progress in the past couple of years, but looking at this drawing, I think maybe I have, if only just a little.
