Ste-Mere-Eglise was the area of a paradrop assault in the morning of d-day 6 June 1944, where the American paratroopers were dropped behind enemy lines to cut reinforcement routes to the "Omaha" beach in Normandy, France. The assault was a complete suprise until the end.
