Chapter 2

We were now just waiting for Cloud to appear.

"You aren't from our world, are you?" asked Yazoo. Kadaj gasped.

"Yazoo, don't be so rude!" he snapped.

"No, he's right. I'm not," I sighed.

"I knew it. Firstly, you don't recognise most of our technology. Secondly, you didn't know about the Turks and thirdly, most importantly, you were surprised about Shinra. Shinra is a huge company, responsible for almost all of our technology. It controls the entire country. It uses the Lifestream, where the spirits of the dead are one with the planet, as an energy source. The entire planet is suffering because of it. The Turks are their police force." explained Yazoo.

The most horrible thought suddenly struck me. "I think... my world might be your past. Where I'm from, Shinra is this kid. He's an amazing inventor and... oh,no... I was talking to him and he'd found a vast supply of energy, in the place where the spirits of the dead go, and we were all encouraging him. Then he started working with Rin, who owns a big company... Oh my god! This could all be my fault!" I was almost in tears by this point.

Loz looked distressed.

"Don't worry, Yuna," said Kadaj, hopefully,"We wouldn't even be here if it wasn't for Shinra. It's a long story. I'll tell you at some point."

Yazoo felt the need to laugh again. I'm not sure why.

"Ah, here comes Cloud," said Loz, "Kadaj, you stay up here with Yuna and send some Shadow Creepers at him, just to scare him."

Yazoo nodded and they zoomed off to catch Cloud.

I spoke to Kadaj for a while. I told him about my life so far and he then asked me a question.

"Yuna, can I trust you?"

This confused me. I assured him that he could trust me. He explained their plan to me.

I was horrified.

"Kadaj, you don't have to do this! You'll end up sacrificing yourself to bring back a brother who only thinks of himself and helping a mother who never really loved you!" I cried. I didn't want my new friend to have to suffer like this.

"I've never known anything else! I have to be strong and trust mother. I'm sure she know what's best for us," replied Kadaj, depressively.

"That's exactly what I thought about Yevon," I spat angrily. Much as it pained me to be cruel to him, I had no other choice. Kadaj looked worried for a moment but then smiled at me.

"Yuna, you're right. I don't have to do this. Let's talk to Loz and Yazoo when they get back."

About half an hour later...

Kadaj and I explained our previous discussion to his brothers.

"Betray....Mother..." whimpered Loz. He looked close to tears.

"You can't do this to us, brother!" screeched Yazoo, "Anyway, you're only doing this because you like her." Kadaj went pink.

"Kadaj," I asked, "Is this true?" It would explain a lot.

He twitched nervously and then nodded, too embarrassed, I think, to look at me.

Yazoo cackled dementedly. "She's planning to leave you know. She was thinking about it earlier. She's going to use that materia and leave forever."

Kadaj spun round in shock, "What?"

Yazoo must have overheard me thinking about home earlier. There was only one thing I could do. Could I really do this?

"I'm not leaving."

"Prove it" sneered Yazoo. Loz merely watched me cautiously.

I removed the orb (note to self: spheres here are called materia) from my pocket and smashed it.

They all gasped. Loz walked over and stood beside me and Kadaj, silently proving that he wouldn't follow Jenova any longer.

"You gave up your home, friends and family to help us? I was a fool to doubt you, Yuna," said Yazoo quietly.

The four of us decided that we would write a new story and that, eventually, nobody would remember Sephiroth or Jenova anymore.

A familiar female voiced spoke in my ear, "Thank you..."
