This was just a short ShirleyxSuzaku oneshot I wrote based off of episode seven from season one. Enjoy the poorly written Code Geass fanfiction I did when I was bored. >.<

Momentarily

It was liable to happen. In one instant, Lelouch was temporarily wiped clean from my mind. By Suzaku Kururugi, of all people. I liked him plenty, of course, but not in the same way as I did Lelouch. The two of them were definitely different people, which is why I was shocked to learn they were actually best friends. One would think I’d end up falling for someone more like Suzaku, the sweet one. Instead, I fell in love with Lelouch, outwardly kind but in a reality a confusing mystery. It was this mysterious demeanor that made me fall in love with Lelouch.

It was the cat that made me consider Suzaku.

One moment we were talking, about my interest in Lelouch of all things, and the next Arthur was attacking Suzaku and the toy he was flailing around in front of the cat. Suzaku was always desperately trying to make the cat like him. And in a way the cat had grown friendly towards the brunet. I guess attacking him was an accident? It seemed that Arthur was aiming more for the toy.

Either way, Arthur ended up lunging at Suzaku. There was a yelp from him, a shrill from me, an agitated meow from Arthur, and then all three of us went tumbling to the floor. I ended up in the most awkward place of all, underneath Suzaku. The awkwardness of the situation, along with Suzaku’s weight, made it difficult to breathe. Unfortunately, I noticed right away how our faces were just mere centimeters away from each other. I wouldn’t have minded being stuck in a situation like this with Lelouch. But Suzaku? The room fell uncomfortably quiet as we shared a stare, that being the only thing we could do. Suzaku’s lightly tinted red face wasn’t making the situation any better.

I’m sure my own face was the exact same color.

I only thanked God that Milly wasn’t around, otherwise she would have never let me live it down. I could already hear her, “Ha ha! Shirley and Suzaku are going at it!” Thankfully, Lelouch was nowhere to be found. I might have just about died if he saw the two of us sprawled out on the floor like we were! But at the moment, it wasn’t Lelouch I was thinking about. The only thing I really could concentrate on was how green Suzaku’s eyes were up close. They were almost hypnotizing, but I controlled myself and managed not to ogle.

“S-Sorry,” Suzaku spluttered quietly, attempting to fix the situation.

Needless to say, it didn’t help. No, actually, it kind of made it worse. I’m sure he didn’t find himself in many of these situations, so his reaction and behavior were understandable. However, the bright red in his cheeks were quite questionable. The same could have been easily said for me. Still, I admit he did look cute like that. I mean, not that I thought it like that. Because... I didn’t...

“Meow!” Chomp!

“Gah!” Suzaku suddenly turned his head away, his eyes squeezed shut as a pained expression wiped the blush off his face. I actually missed his blush, but only for a moment! My eyes drifted away from the look of uncomfortable pain on Suzaku’s face and landed on the hand he had firmly planted on the floor next to my shoulder. It turned out that Arthur had decided to give in to old habits and bit Suzaku’s hand when his guard was down. I felt bad for the guy, yet I couldn’t help but thank Arthur for interrupting our awkward moment. At least the slight comedic effect made it easier to talk.

“Doesn’t that hurt?” Of all the things to say, these were the first words that came out of my mouth. I’m sure it hurt, which made me feel a little moronic for asking. All because I was momentarily infatuated with Suzaku. Damn you, Arthur.

“Greatly,” Suzaku replied through clenched teeth in a pained tone. And that was the end of that.
