Editor Blames Foreign Fans For Uploads

In an article recently posted in the Daily Yomiuri, a Kodansha editor suggested scanlations from outside Japan have lead to the practice appearing in the country, stating "the kids in Japan caught on and now all kinds of manga are available for free as soon as they hit shelves [in Japan]." The article also quoted Yukari Shiina, an employee for World-Manga.com, stating she "[doesn't] buy scanlation groups arguments that they promote manga in general," at least in the case of mainstream properties, and stating "scanlations are a problem", citing a 6.6 percent decrease in manga sales in Japan last year. Looks like the scanlation debate will continue to rage on for quite a while. Source Link
