The Oxford Dictionary of English (not the Oxford English Dictionary) has included "hikikomori" in its most recent edition, which was released Thursday. The term, which is defined as "the abnormal avoidance of social contact, typically by adolescent males" or "a person who avoids social contact", has been a staple among anime characters for several years, but this is the first time it has been included in an English dictionary. Hikikomori is not the first Japanese term to be included in the book, as the Oxford Dictionary of English also added "otaku" to its pages in 2005. Source Link
