According to a report from Variety, Shane Black has been signed to direct Warner Bros' adaptation of the Death Note manga series. Black is best known for having written the scripts for "Lethal Weapon" and "The Long Kiss Goodnight". He made his directing debut in 2005 with "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang", which starred Robert Downey Jr. No word yet on a specific timeline for release. Source Link
