Atlus today announced that their hit Japanese PS3 and Xbox 360 game, "Catherine" will be localized for North American audiences. Before you yawn and hit the back button, here's why you should care...
First, this is one of the only (maybe it is the only?) mature anime dating-type game that a major publisher has dared to even try to release here. Definitely adults only fare.
Second, the game is bizarre-o beyond just being an adult dating-sim. At night, when your character falls asleep, he enters a nightmare world where all men are sheep. At this point the game's genre changes dramatically and turns to horror.
(Kind of reminds me of the famous Japanese film AUDITION.)
Third, despite so many things that could have gone wrong, Catherine actually sold very well and garnered critical praise. Famitsu, the #1 video game publication in Japan, gave it a 35/40.
