Legendary producer Seiichiro Ujiie has died at a Tokyo hospital the age of 84 due to multiple organ failure. At the time of his passing, he was the chairman of NTV.
Over his lifetime, Ujiie produced almost all the films for Studio Ghibli between 1993 and 2008, his last film being Ponyo. He had also produced many Detective Conan, InuYasha, Death Note and Lupin III films. For a time, he also served as the head of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo.
His service will be broadcast on NTV in the coming days which follow a private ceremony for the family.
