American author Orson Scott Card, the creator of several notable science-fiction novels, including Ender's Game, gave high praise to Sunrise's Cowboy Bebop series in his April 9 column for the Greensboro Rhino Times, calling the series "better than all but a handful of science fiction films, ever."
Card said he only watched the series after his daughter became an "anime snob", but enjoyed the series and compared it to Joss Whedon's Firefly TV series in terms of theme. He also praised the music of Yoko Kanno, saying he "came to love [her] explorations of every kind of jazz, beatnik and '50s rock all woven through a delicious new age sensibility."
Pretty steep praise from someone who didn't even like sci-fi films to begin with.
