It's not surprise that there's a whole slew of E3 news right now. But in terms of the big announcements, Nintendo has definitely come out swinging hard with its new high-definition game system: The Wii U. The "Wii" may have referred to the group experience the Wii would bring, but the "U" is all about putting a rather powerful controller in the user's hands.
How does it look? Imagine someone took a handheld gaming system with the usual d-pad, buttons, thumbsticks and shoulder buttons. Then they put a 6.2" touch screen and a micropone on it. Then they put the usual Wii motion controls into it. Then they turned it into a controller for a home console.
Something like that.
The Wii U is planning for a 2012 release date, and looks to be getting a head start on the other two guys before they even begin to leak news of working on their next big systems. Should be fun to keep tabs on this one...
