Well, it took six years, but it is official: the US Supreme Court has shot down the California lawmakers trying to make it illegal to sell violent video games to minors on First Amendment bases.
In a 7-2 ruling, the US Supreme Court ruled today that video games have the same Freedom of Expression protection as literature or film, and that the current self-regulation and rating systems "have been shown effective enough to work." And the United States (and by proxy the rest of the continent) escapes a dangerous precedent and/or slippery slope. And that is good.
That said, parents, don't forget to keep tabs on the little bottom-left corners of those game boxes... y'know, ounce of prevention and all that...
