Following a disastrously bad second quarter for hardware sales - especially for its newest handheld, the 3DS - Nintendo is about to undertake one of the fastest, most drastic price cuts in recent gaming history.
Come August 12th of this year, the 3D console will drop to $169.99usd, down from its debut at $249. That's a 32% price drop for a game system that has only been out for half a year. If you were on the fence about getting one before, next month's about as good as it gets. Good for customers, anyway.
In other parts of the world, the price drop means the 3DS will be down to ¥15,000 in Japan (from ¥25,000) and $250aud in Australia (from $350aud); European prices have not been announced, though Nintendo says the cut in Europe will be "around a third".
