Take an ordinary, household item and then add the words "Made in Japan" on the label. Sure, there's a cool factor to owning something from the land of manga, but do the Japanese really make better household items? In this column we'll explore those interesting Japanese products that you can use on a daily basis that knocked our socks off.
Note: None of the products we'll feature in this column have any sort of business relationship with us nor do we collect a commission if you check them out. These are just products we like from Japan that we think can improve your day to day life.
Seki Edge Nail Clippers
Finger and toe nail clippers are as boring as you can get. Buy them for a dollar at the local pharmacy and they get the job done. Sure they rust quickly and the cut is never great, but that just comes with the territory, right?
To answer that, let me introduce you to Seki Edge, a Japanese company with the following tagline: "From the mountains of Seki come the workmanship of master craftsmen whose roots stretch back to the creators of the samurai sword."
O_O
...Nail clippers crafted by samurai experts...
Despite rave reviews on Amazon, with a 4.5/5 average score, I was skeptical and balked at the $12 price tag. A week later I have a pair in my medicine cabinet that I cherish.
The nail clippers are balanced, the cut is incredibly smooth and sharp--never requiring a double clip--and I can tell it will ward off rust for a long, long time. Considering how often I'll use this thing, it's one of the best $12 purchases I ever made. The toe nail clippers are equally pro.
