FUNImation and NicoNico Join Forces
FUNimation and NicoNico, Nico Nico Douga's American branch, announced on Friday they are partnering to co-license new anime titles, forming a new company called Funico. The new company will put all its licensed titles out on home video, while NicoNico will stream all the titles in high definition for both free and paid users. Funico will also make all its titles available through download-to-own format, similar to the system already in use by FUNimation. Both companies have stated they plan to license anime for more than just the U.S. and Canada, though specific countries have yet to be announced.
