DGS Studios and Roll and Rixy produced a short live-action introduction to what they hope will eventually become a full-length Sailor Moon film. The group hopes that fan response will help them gain rights to produce a feature length movie.
To fund the project, the group turned to the fans. Initially hoping to raise a mere $2,500 for the project, the crew was overwhelmed by support, raising over $5,000.
The adaptation, which is intended to be an edgy, modern spin on the classic is available on YouTube, and includes hand-made costumes, special effects and original music. The not-for-profit video had nearly 20,000 views in the first 24 hours. The official premiere is scheduled to take place tonight at Webster Hall in New York City.
