Shigeru Miyamoto, the man behind Donkey Kong, Zelda and Mario is soon to be stepping down as head of Nintendo's game development department. At 59 years old, Miyamoto has had a lot of young developers grow under his wing; he feels he needs to steer clear of them if they are to continue growing as Nintendo's future. Beyond that, Miyamoto also wants to get back into developing some smaller, more personal projects with a smaller team.
So make no mistake. There are still many, many years ahead for Nintendo and Shigeru Miyamoto. Man, why can't all our bosses be this awesome when they retire? Oh right, 'cause he's Shigeru Flippin' Miyamoto, that's why.
