When you grow up geek you get used to spectator snickering. I remember trading Magic: The Gathering cards on the school bus in middle school. One day a high school student, with bleached hair and a pierced ear, walked down the aisle and swatted my deck to the floor. A couple people laughed and I stopped bringing cards that day.
Watching anime is a less visible hobby than playing a physical card game. But reading manga, wearing merch and writing in Sesshomaru-themed notebooks is quite public.
