Discuss: Your Favorite Anime Tune
If anime had no music, the J-pop scene would be in a sorry state. But anime isn't just J-pop, there are plenty of titles that explore other genres of music, from classical to jazz to opera. The importance of music in anime can be seen by the close, collaborative relationship between top directors and their trusted composers (Hayao Miyazaki and Joe Hisaishi, Shinichiro Watanabe and Yoko Kanno and the late Satoshi Kon and Susumu Hirasawa).
