The Resurrection of an Anime Long Forgotten
Historians have discovered an anime series that dates back to 1958. Mole’s Adventure is only nine minutes long, uses paper cutouts instead of cel animation and uses one voice actress. It is the world’s oldest TV anime. Mole's Adventure will air July 21st, 7:00PM on Japan’s Animax channel. Link
GITS: Arise First Minutes
The official Ghost in the Shell: Arise YouTube channel has released the first eight minutes of the new show with English captions. The story is a prequel to the previous incarnations. In it Motoko Kusanagi is suspected of a terrorist bombing following the death of her superior officer.
The Worldwide Pokémon Trailer
At the Nintendo Direct video conference, the newest Pokémon X and Y gameplay trailer revealed several features, including Fairy Type pokemon and a more personal Pokémon interface dubbed Pokémon-Amie.
E3 Reveals More PokéSecrets
In other Pokémon news, a roundtable discussion at the Electronic Entertainment Expo revealed several more gameplay mechanics. These include two new battle modes to the series, Horde Battle and Sky Battle. Also new is the Player Search System, which allows players to wirelessly connect from anywhere in the world. Link
The Moe Contagion
The Higurashi Project released their second trailer for the upcoming OVA Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kaku: Outbreak. This continuation of the When They Cry horror franchise joins our main heroes as they try to save their town from a mysterious virus and an ever advancing military.
K Dub Cast Announced
Viz Media has announced the English cast to the anime K. Directed by Shingo Suzuki in his directorial debut, the cast includes Sam Regal, Matthew Mercer, and Stephanie Sheh. Health Complications Halt Band’s Return
Though pop duo Chage and Aska had looked forward to a comeback, their hiatus has been extended. Their website states that Aska, real name Shigeaki Miyazaki, recently suffered a cerebral ailment known as a transient ischemic attack. In response, several tour dates have been delayed. Chage and Aska have been together for 35 years and are best known for their single "On Your Mark." Link
Toonami Comes Back With Vengeance
According to timeslot ratings for primetime television, Toonami scored record highs in the second week of June. Between 12:00 AM and 2:00 AM ET, each show led the ratings across all television networks. What were the shows that brought in the viewers? The Big Three and Soul Eater. Link
RIP Hirō Isono
Artist Hirō Isono has passed away from heart failure at the age of 65. His work as an artist began in the 1970’s, when he worked on picture books and light novels. He is most well known for his main visual work on the video game Final Fantasy Adventure and the rest of the Mana series. Link
RIP Kenji Utsumi
Voice actor Kenji Utsumi passed away this week at a Tokyo hospital at the age of 75 after struggling with cancerous peritonitis. Since 1968, the baritone voiced actor provided voices for many iconic characters, including Fist of the North Star’s Raoh, Dr. Slump’s Senbei, Full Metal Alchemist’s Maj. Alex Armstrong, and Macross Plus’s Millard Johnson. Link
