Wolf Children Dub Trailer Revealed
Directed by Mamoru Hosada (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Summer Wars), Wolf Children debuted in Japan last year to great praise, including a 9/10 review on this site. FUNimation has now begun streaming the English trailer for the film's American release.
Production I.G. Releases Defunct Project Art
In a case of what could have been, animation studio Production I.G. revealed artwork for a defunct anime film called Snake. The film would have been based on the character of Snake Plissken, played by Kurt Russell, of Escape From New York and Escape from L.A. fame. Plissken is better known in Japan as the inspiration for the character Solid Snake of the Metal Gear Solid franchise. Link
Attack on Titan Season 2 Not Yet Greenlit
Now that the anime phenomenon has ended its first season run, many fans are wondering about a second season. According to several staff of the show, including lead voice actors Yuuki Kaji, Yui Ishikawa, and Marina Inoue, the show has yet to resume production. They are all, however, eager to continue. Link
Minecraft/Attack of Titan Superproject Nearing Finish
In other AoT news, we first reported in June that a group in Japan sought to recreate a scale-model of the anime's Shiganshina district. We can officially report that the project is two-thirds complete and, quite simply, looks massive and spectacular.
Pokémon Jumbo Jet Flies For Last Time
The All Nippon Airways jumbo jet Boeing 747-700 "Pikachu Jumbo" was officially decommissioned on Monday at Naha Airport. Premiering in 2004, the "Pikachu Jumbo" is the eighth of ten airplanes classified as a "Pokémon Jet." Each jet bears images of the creatures on their sides and features exclusive in-flight entertainment based on the franchise. The video below shows the plane's last trip.
NYC To Host PokéParty
In other Pokémon news, Nintendo World in Rockefeller Center, New York City, will host the Pokémon X and Y Launch Party on October 11 from 8PM to 1AM. Attendees will be the first in the country to have a crack at the game, while other events include costume contests, trivia, and a guest appearance by Pikachu himself. LInk
Nintendo History Meets In Playing Cards
In a last bit of Pokémon related news, Nintendo honors two quintessential traditions that define the company. When Nintendo first premiered in 1889, their first product was playing cards for the Japanese game hanafuda. In 1996, they released the first Pokémon video game on the Game Boy. France Gets Crunchy
Anime streaming service Crunchyroll has announced the fourth country where it will be available. France joins The United States, Mexico, and Portugal with twelve simulcast titles from the 2013 fall anime season. Link
Evangelion Gets Shanghaied
Being called the largest Neon Genesis Evangelion event in Chinese history, the upcoming Eva Expo in the city of Shanghai looks to have it all. A total of over 1,000 displays will tell the history of the legendary anime series. Major attractions include scale recreations of NERV HQ and Rei Ayanami’s bedroom, and a 3-D light show. The event runs from November 16 to December 1. Link
TOHO Registers Lupin Domain Name
According to a document retrieved from the Japanese domain name database, production company TOHO has filed for the online domain name lupin-the-movie.jp. This is a possible reference to the Lupin III franchise, though no new films have been announced outside of the upcoming Lupin vs Detective Conan movie. Link
400-Year Old Japanese Erotica On Display
To those who say that hentai isn’t art, the British Museum in London begs to differ. Their newest exhibit, simply titled “Shunga,” features erotic Japanese art dating back to the Edo Period that for centuries was considered taboo. Included are works from the legendary artist Hokusai, best known for "The Great Wave at Kanagawa." The exhibit runs from October 3 to January 5. Link
Japanese Download Law Hurts Music Industry
On October 1, 2012, the Japanese government signed to law an anti-piracy bill outlawing the ripping of digital media for personal use. Since then, the Japanese music industry has felt the consequences, with legal sales of digital music dropping 24% and file sharing on the websites Winry and Share freefalling by 40%. Link
