Now, the precocious little kitty is teaming up with a juggernaut of Western animation, The Simpsons, to bring a special line of toys and collectibles. Expect more from this crossover September 2014. Super Smash Brothers Melee was the best-selling game for the N64 game console. It inspired a generation of gamers to take their hobby to a professional level. Now, East Point Pictures presents "The Smash Brothers," an online film series that analyzes the game’s science and the Smash Wars of the 2000s. (Warning: film contains some inappropriate language.)
Major XY Bug To Be Patched
Though Pokémon X/Y's sales have been record-setting and reviews have been glowing, one glitch hampers the experience. Nintendo has acknowledged that players who save the game in the Lumiose Boulevards will corrupt their save files. A patch is in the works, but Nintendo advises caution with where you save in the meantime. Link
Zelda On the Big – and Little – Screen
Legend of Zelda project leader Eiji Aonuma recently discussed the possibility of a film based on the legendary franchise. Uniquely, he brought up the idea that audiences could play their 3DS consoles during the movie to increase immersion. An interesting take, but don't get your hopes up, this is all speculation. Link
Anime Mirai 2014 Announced
The compendium film Anime Mirai 2013 gained overwhelming attention in the international community, especially with Studio Trigger’s Little Witch Academia short. A new class is now in session. Joining the next project are Ultra Super Pictures, A-1 Pictures, Shin-Ei Animation and Studio 4°C. Each studio gets $380,000 and one year to make 30 minutes of animation to showcase the industry’s newest talent. Link
Katanas and Mecha In Perfect Harmony
A traveling exhibition scheduled for 2014 will bring Europe two Japanese traditions married into a unique experience. The Evangelion and Japanese Swords Exhibit first cropped up in 2012 and highlighted handcrafted weaponry based on the franchise. Included in the show are fully functional replicas of the Lance of Longinus, EVA knifes and a katana based on Unit 01. Link
J-Pop Band Greets Olympians
In commemoration of the successful Tokyo Olympic bid, famous Japanese band WORLD ORDER has released “Welcome to Tokyo.” Much like their other videos, the band is all suits and all choreography.
All Stars Top Olympic Survey
In other Tokyo 2020 news, Japanese civilians were polled to see whom they want to perform at the opening ceremonies. By a mile, Southern All Stars won the vote with 8,939 votes out of 143,394. Link
NYCC Rivals Big Brother
New York Comic Con declares recorded attendance of 130,000 unique visitors. With this number, it rivals San Diego Comic-Con International, one of the largest cons in the world. LInk
RIP Takashi Yanase
Manga-ka Takashi Yanase passed away on Sunday October 13 from heart failure. He was 94. Yanase is best known for his work Anpanman, one of the first Western anime imports to find a significant audience in the United States. From 2000 to 2012, he served as the head of the Japan Cartoonist Association. Link
