Otaku Haven or Taxpayer Nightmare?
Politician Yukio Hatoyama from the opposition Democratic Party of Japan criticized the proposed construction of the 11.7-billion-yen anime museum in Odaiba Island. According to Hatoyama, the museum is being proposed simply because Prime Minister Taro Aso is an anime fan and is advancing his own personal interests. He further called the museum a very foolish and enormously wasteful "national manga cafe". The said museum is part of PM Aso's proposal to revitalize the Japanese economy.
