The Law of Ueki (TV)

Have you ever thought what would happen to the world if a hundred Middle School Students gains strange powers, fight one another, and whoever wins, their trainer or the celestial being that gave them that power will become the next Kami or God, and that student will gain any talent he wants by writing it in the Blank Zai (talent)?

It sounds like a long winded explanation, but that is basically what is happening in the world of this Anime.

Ueki Kousuke, the main character of the series, is a person who likes helping others, even if his life would be placed on the line. He is very impulsive, yet highly determined. He has the power to turn trash into trees. Yes folks, he can grow trees out of trash, make them sprout from his hand… It was given to him by the God-Candidate Kobayashi – whom they call Kobasen. Kobasen is also Ueki’s class adviser in school.

For the student fighters, the main driving force that makes them want to fight is the reward of Zai, or talent. Should they win the tournament, they can write whatever talent they want on the Blank Zai – be it for good, evil or for personal reasons. After a crucial point in Ueki’s life and the purpose of the battle was revealed to him, he made it his personal mission to keep the Blank Zai away from the hands of those with evil intentions.

The Law of Ueki is your typical Shounen Anime. The characters gets stronger and stronger as enemies also gets stronger, foes become friends, and a lot of determination and will power is often the key that can turn the tide to your favor.

It can’t be helped to compare this to another anime where people have strange or silly powers, which, when used properly, can be a destructive and scary force to be reckoned with. I am talking about One Piece, though I am merely referring to abilities. If you enjoy watching One Piece, there’s a good chance that you’ll probably enjoy watching this anime.
