Game Update

I spent two weeks finishing a fully functioning prototype for version 1.0 of my new game hobby project

Epic fail. I was really disappointed with it. And watching people play it (the best way to know how good something is) was even more disappointing.

That's the hard part of games - and most other types of art, too - it's really tough to know whether what you envision will actually end up being any good once finished

So I talked to some smart people, hit the drawing board and am almost done with version 2.0.

Hopefully this will be worthy...

Aw Thanks!

What Monsters Lurk?

Here is a concept drawing of the type of monster you can expect to see in the new game I'm working on :)

I'm Surrounded By Procrastinators

...Which is awesome because I'm one of you.

I know some of you will miss Nappa as our mascot, but he'll be our official "backup" mascot. Maybe we might even do a thing where he drops by theO once a month to say "hi"

I'm debating how we choose what mascot to use on theO.

Here are two options:

(1) Our staff can get together and decide
(2) Our staff narrows down the finalists to 8 or so and we can do a "tournament" like we did with our "Best Anime Character Ever" contest, spread out over the month

What do you think?

My Next Game

What happened to my game design career?

My first big game, Nimble Strong, was released in May 2010, almost two years ago. Despite the best possible press (Joystiq, Reddit, The New York Times, BoingBoing, TUAW, etc., etc., etc.) I've produced exactly nothing in the game space since then.

Nimble hasn't even received the smallest of updates; typos linger.

Well, I'm happy to report I'm making a new game. And I'm doing it first in flash, so everyone can see it. I even envision a community element where members can contribute to the contents.

Depending on how the flash version goes, we may port it over to the iPhone/iPad.

Here's a basic overview:

- An atmosphere kind of like Coraline
- You play as a young girl with a magic, talking doll
- There are monsters. Not pocket monsters, real monsters
- Darkness and light is a major part of game play
- You're in a big house by yourself

Can't wait to show you all.
