Blending with Copics (Part One)

Part One of a blending tutorial.

In this part, I've picked out some youtube videos for you to check out and see different methods of blending. I like the method where the lighter colour goes on first and then you work in the darker colours, while using the original light colour to blend them together. Keep in mind that blending works best with similar colours. On the side of your Copic marker you will see the colour numbers I talked about earlier. (Here is the FAQ on the colour numbers.) So for example a V15 (which is a bright but light violet colour) will blend extremely well with a V17. Thats why you might find that you need to keep buying new copics markers and maybe the whole set eventually as you improve. Don't worry, even a few copics will be fun to use, but if you seriously want to get into blending and colouring its good to get sets of matching colours even if you think they are really similar.

Here's a video that shows a method I usually use. (Part two of this tutorial will be how I blend my colours in certain situations.)

Though, when you watch this next video, you can see that it is possible to blend opposite colours!! Blending also matters on how wet the ink on your paper is. When blending opposite colours, feathering always works well.

Here's a more simple blending video. All the colours are related.

One more thing... Dark colours will spread more then light colours. That's why its a good idea to put down the light layer first to get the paper wet and then add the shadows and blend them together with the light. Also remember that even if the tip of your marker gets dirty, it will not ruin your marker.

Questions are welcome! Talk to you all later :D
