Stockpile of Arms

Yeah, whenever you hear weapons in the title, chances are good that I'm merely updating my Gunslinger Girl collection. This time around, I've added the 4th omnibus containing volumes 9-10. While this never was the most joyful series around, it's even more grim in the latest issue. C'mon, won't someone make a new season for these stories already!? If some studio combined the 1st season's art with the 2nd season's tighter storyline, it'd be a force to be reckoned with.

You know, after reading all of these (and watching, too), someday I should write a review of 'em for the Loony Library. One thing that's stopping me, though, is whether to do it individually, or review 'em all as one. (I mean the manga, not the anime). Before any of that, I'm exploring the headspace of a classic Italian political system that, I think, informs some of Gunslinger Girl's social/political landscape. And I'm talking of none other than Machiavelli's works. Right now I'm reading his Discourses on Livy, which I'll follow-up with The Prince. At some point, I almost expect him to advise some leader to run with scissors. There is very little that's utopian in his political outlook.
