Chapter Three: Night Out to Steal the Gem

-Kuroi-

I looked out the window and rested my head on my hand. ‘How do you expect me to help you catch myself?’ I thought ‘What was it that I was supposed to steal tonight…a cascading heart gem or something like that.’ I ran my fingers through my hair ‘This is going to be a long night.’ I looked back at the board and started taking notes.

The final bell rang and I was the last one out of the classroom.

“How is it that you’re so good in Accounting?” Miyuki asked pushing off the wall when I walked out of the classroom and we started heading to our lockers.

I shrugged “I guess it just comes naturally to me.” I stated.

“That’s because you’re a fricken’ monkey.” She mentioned.

“Hey rams are good with writing and obviously just look at the field you’re trying to get into.” I suggested as we stopped at her locker first.

“Yea I guess so.” She said “So are you coming with me tonight?”

I shook my head. “You know me I’m to lazy to do my homework in school and it takes me forever to read a book so I guess I’m just going to watch the news again.” I responded.

“One of these times Kouri you’re not going to be able to make these legitimate excuses for staying home. I will get you to come with me.” She warned pointing her finger at me.

“Right, right, I get it. But what are you going to do when we have to do another research project? Are you going to procrastinate like last time and just barely get it into the website before it’s due?” I asked and she hit me again for the umpteenth time today.

“No, I’m going to get it done early that way I don’t have to worry about it.” She huffed tossing her back over her shoulder and closing her locker.

“Right…procrastinator.” I muttered and she slapped me in the back knocking the wind out of me.

“I am NOT a procrastinator!!!” She said and went over to my locker first and stood in front of it.

“Your…going to have to move.” I told her finally catching my breath.

“No not until you take back what you said.” She looked away from me.

I sighed and put my books down beside her then grabbed her waist and picked her up.

“Put me down you jerk.” She ordered and I set her down behind me.

“Well that wasn’t to hard to move you.” I smirked and leaned against my locker so she couldn’t get at it.

She tried to hip check my but it didn’t work and I started doing my locker com and open my locker then she closed it on me. I turned and looked at her “…Really?” I questioned.

She smiled and leaned against the wall.

“Get a room you two.” One of the jocks in our class shouted.

“WE’RE NOT TOGETHER!!!” We shouted in unison.

Then I went back to doing my com again. When I opened my locker this time I put my leg against the door so she couldn’t shut it again. I quickly grabbed my bag and the rest of my stuff and closed my locker then shoved everything in my bag.

“You ready to go?” I asked she nodded and we walked towards the main doors of the school.

“You know I can help you read faster.” She commented.

“It’s alright I like my speed of reading.” I answered.

“It was worth a shot.” She sighed.

We walked in silence for a while then she had to turn down her drive way and I kept walking. My house was about a block away from hers.

“I’m home.” I called out as I walked into the house.

“Welcome home son.” My mom greeted as she walked from the livingroom to the kitchen.

“Dad working late again tonight?” I asked taking off my shoes and going into the kitchen.

“Yea, he said he was sorry that he couldn’t be here to see you off.” She replied.

“You know I’m fine with it. By the way mom did this come from your side of the family or from dads. You two never told me.” I stated.

“It came from your fathers’ side of the family. He said that his great, great grandfather was an aerologist and was cursed going into a pharaohs tomb. He was the only one to make it out. And that’s all I know.” She answered.

“So why do I have to steal things?” I asked sitting down at the island.

“Well that’s my side of the family. We’re excellent thieves also the things that you’re stealing have special abilities that are begging to become active again after 200 years and with the curse that your fathers side of the family has and the abilities of my side of the family you’re actually the perfect thief.” She turned and smiled at me.

“Mom, you’re food is smoking.” I commented motioning towards the stove.

“Oh!” She turned around quickly and I got up from the table.

“I’m going to go and try to do some of my homework as I get ready.” I told her and went to my room what was down the hall and closed my door behind me. I flopped my bag on my bed. I actually had all my homework done I finished the book that my English class had to read and I did all the questions. I went into my closet and got out my clothes that I usually wore for the nights that I went out. What was supposed to be skin tight long sleeved under armor shirt. Black cargo pants, black gloves, and black boots. I put it on then went to the bathroom and looked at my self in the mirror.

“I might as well change now so I’m use to the way I look by the time I have to leave.” I muttered to myself and watched my hair fade to a deep red and grow longer as well. It stopped when it was about at the base of my neck but I kept my bangs the same length. The shirt got tighter on me, I changed my eye color to ebony and that was about all I did. I walked out of the bathroom and back into my room for a while and laid down then stared at the ceiling.

“Kouri dinners done.” My mother called down the hall.

“Coming.” I responded and got up then went into the kitchen.

“Oh you already changed.” She smiled.

“What you don’t like it?” I asked looking at myself then back at my mom.

“No you just look like your father when he was your age but the under armor suits you better.” She smiled.

“So dad had red hair?” I asked.

“No his is still the same dark brown color.” She said.

We at dinner and I walked around the house for about an hour making sure that I had everything together and a change of clothes if I had to walk around in the crowd. I had thick enough wire and smoke bombs for a quick get away if I needed them but I usually didn’t.

“Alright mom I’m going to head out.” I called.

“Alright, be safe.” She said and I closed the door behind me and got on my bike and sped off towards the museum.

I parked my bike a few blocks over past the park and then got up on the roof then started hopping from roof top to roof top. That was one thing that I liked about the curse that was on my fathers side of the family was the strange abilities that I got.

There was a crowd outside the museum and I’m sure that Mi was probably in that crowd. I jumped from the roof of the building and landed on the ledge of one of the windows. I peered into the building to make sure that no one was around then I opened the window and got in. By the look of where I was I wasn’t to far away from the gem thing I was supposed to be. I made it to the sight of the gem and easily deactivated the lock and security system that was surrounding it. I put the thing in the bag and didn’t realize that there was a weight sincere under it and the alarm went off. I put it in one of my pockets and got out of there. I managed to get to the roof and used my wire and threw it at the nearest building then I jumped from the roof top and got my way up to the roof top of the next building over. With out taking a break I started running and got to the park. No one was around so I took a break by leaning up against one of the trees to take a breather.
