Chapter Forty-One: Secret Place

I took her to my favorite spot it was a field just past the woods that were behind my house. I’ve never taken Miyuki here before. I set down in the grass and it was a bit chilly out tonight I don’t know why I decided to wear a tank top out. At least Miyuki was smart and wore a sweater.

“Well do you like it?” I asked letting go of her and taking the charm off and putting it back in my pocket.

“It’s beautiful here.” She said amazed.

“This is where I go to think.” I told her.

“I can understand why it’s so peaceful here.” She said.

“”I actually brought you here to show you something.” I told her being completely serious.

“What is it?” She questioned.

“Do you want to know why no one can catch me?” I stated.

“Why can’t anyone catch you?” She said sarcastically probably thinking it was going to be a stupid answer.

I changed into myself, which to her she thinks its Kuori, which is me. She gasped in shock and was about to scream I took a long stride over to her and put a hand over he mouth. “Don’t scream.”

She pushed my hand away and stepped back from me. “So you can change into anyone?” Mi said covering her mouth.

“Yes I can.” I muttered and looked down at the ground.

“But why, why do you steal?” she asked.

“Because I have to keep people safe. I can since magic in items. Some magic is so powerful that it can manipulate people.” I explained to her.

“But why steal it then?” She asked.

“Because wouldn’t you think it would be a bit weird if I just all of a sudden started chanting something completely weird in front of everyone then say oh hey I have magical powers I can since magic.” I complained then plopped down in the grass.

“Hey, come on now, don’t be so hard on yourself.” Miyuki told me and sat down next to me.

“Every time I go and steal something, I’m afraid of a lot of things.” I said.

“Like what?” She asked.

“Afraid that I might get caught, someone might find out, you might get hurt.” I replied.

“Afraid…that I will get hurt.” She stuttered.

“Do you think it will snow?” I asked changing the subject.

“Of course I do, it’s only November.” She answered.

“No I mean for your winter ball.” I mentioned.

“Well I think so.” She sighed.

“It’s always a good thing to have a dream.” I said and looked up at the stars.

“So what is your dream?” She questioned.

“To one day get rid of this curse.” I answered.

“Wait it’s a curse?” She questioned curious.

“Yes.” I said and put a hand on my head and I ended up changing back to being Zero.

“What’s wrong?” She asked.

“I can’t stay changed when I’m tired.” I told her.

“Oh.” She looked down at her shoes.

My head was still throbbing though worse then before. And I pulled out the charm and put it on. “I have to take you home now.” I told her.

“Who are you really Zero?” She asked as I picked her up and took off.

I got her to her house and into her room quickly and I know that my eyes were starting to change. “I can’t tell you.” I answered then ran out of her room and took off.

I crash-landed onto our lawn as myself again and I just laid there for a few minuets and closed my eyes. “That was close.” I muttered and finally got back up and crawled into my window and got changed and went to bed.

So Friday passed and I had pretty much nothing to do except clean the whole house and rest my leg after I was done because I was suspended from school but luckily enough the kids came clean and the principle called later on that evening and let my parents know that my suspension was over and I could participate in the Winter Ball.

Unfortunately I’m still grounded and they won’t let me out of the house even though they didn’t know that I snuck out of the house last night to be with Miyuki. It felt like I was getting another cold again but it’s probably from being out in a tank top. I was bored and so I took out my phone and text Miyuki.

So guess what

My suspension is over the boys who picked the fight came forward to the principle.

That’s great!

But I still can’t go to the Winter Ball.

Why not

Because I’m still grounded.

But why?

I don’t know.

You should try to convince them to let you come.

I’ll try no promises though

Alright, well how is your leg feeling?

It could be better if I wasn’t cleaning the house all day.

You shouldn’t do that stuff with your leg so hurt like that.

I know, but I was bored.

You worry me sometimes.

Sorry. Hey is it alright is I come over I have to get out of the house.

I thought you were grounded

My parents left for a camping trip this weekend what they don’t know can’t hurt them.

So come to the dance then.

What if they come back when I’m not home?

Well taking chances can be a good thing

I know…I’ll think about it.

Alright. Well are you still going to come over??

I was just wondering because I kind of wanted to talk to you.

Oh aright I’ll be right over then.

I slid my phone into my pocket and went into the bathroom and grabbed another aspirin then got my shoes on and left. I walked over to her house and her mom let me in and I went up to her room.

“Knock, knock.” I said and walked into her room.

“Hey.” She smiled and patted the bed next to her.

I sat down and put my bad leg up on the bed.

“You should at least try to use the crutches.” She sighed.

I laughed a little and rubbed the back of my head. “I don’t like using them.”

“Well you’re not going to get better if you don’t use them.” She huffed.

“Sorry about that.” I said and looked down at the ground. “So what did you want to talk about?” I asked.

“I know that reason why Zero can’t be caught.” She said and I tried to act surprise.

“Well I didn’t think that was even possible.” I lied.

“I guess it is.” She laughed a bit.

“Anything is possible.” I shrugged.

“Yea, I guess so. But...Zero is another person.” She said looking down.

“What…are you talking about?” I asked.

“It’s nothing never mind.” She shook her head.

I looked at her in the eyes and she seemed a bit shocked. “I’m getting tired I’m going to head home. I’ll try to make it tomorrow.” I said and stood up.

“Y-yea, alright.” She stuttered.

“Well I’ll talk to you tomorrow then.” I smiled and left the room.

“Okay, night Kuroi.” She said after me.

I got on my shoes and went home then went straight to bed and fell asleep.
