Chapter Fourty-Four: A Confession and A Note

~*Miyuki*~

I looked at Kuori a little caught off guard. I knew that people our age tossed the word ‘love’ around all the time, but he knew that I felt that it was more special then just a word you threw at someone. I knew he felt the same way about it too. I let a few tears slide down my cheeks and hugged him tightly. “Kuori, I love you too.” I whispered.

“Then don’t cry.” He said.

“I’m just, so happy. You make me so happy.” I smiled.

“Lets get you in out of the cold.” He opened the front door and I pulled him in after me.

“Mom, Dad, we’re going to hang out for a little bit longer ok?” I asked and told at the same time.

“Ok dears! Go and have fun!” My mom grinned and dad just nodded.

“Thanks!” I ran up the stairs and Kuori slowly followed me. I shut my door after he came in and went over to my jewelry box and turned on the little light that was on it. I pulled my new charm out of the box and carefully clipped it onto my bracelet that was on my wrist, then I turned the light back off and smiled at Kuori.

“I’m glad you like it.” He said.

“This has been, the best birthday I’ve ever had.” I sat down on my bed.

“I’ll have to top this one next year then.” He said sitting by me.

“That’ll be pretty tough.” I admitted. He leaned over and whispered in my ear.

“I’m up for a challenge.”

“There’s only one thing that could make this day better.” I smirked.

“Oh really?” He ran his fingers through my hair and wrapped his arm around my waist.

“Yeah.” I said.

“What would that be?” He asked. I kissed him and then pulled back slightly.

“You’re mom’s frosting.” I smirked.

“Oh and you say I’m a tease.” He laughed a little.

“No, I say Zero is a tease, you’re a jerk!” I laughed with him.

“But as I’ve said before, I’m your jerk, always have been, and forever will be.” He said.

“Oh Kuori.” I blushed.

“You are so pretty when you blush.” He smiled. I looked away and he pulled me in closer. “I do tease you about it, but that’s only because you get redder, and it makes me want you more.” He kissed my cheek lightly. It felt strange having him say things like that, not that I didn’t like it, I did. Immensely. I just wasn’t used to it, but I trusted him literally with my life and I knew he would never betray me.

“Who better to fall in love with than your best friend?” I put my hands on his shoulders.

“Nobody.” He smiled and kissed my neck. I blushed even deeper.

“K-Kuori, you’re never were the super cuddly touchy feely person…not that I’m not enjoying this or anything, but what’s going on?”

“Remember that cascading hearts piece, the rose?”

“Yeah, the one in Paris.” I said.

“It shattered remember. I inhaled some of the smoke, and I think that it is making me a lot more bold then normal.” He explained. “I’m really sorry.” He sat back up and I leaned against him.

“It’s alright, you don’t ever have to apologize for showing affection for me.” I said honestly. “I just don’t want to make you mad by being, too close to you too often. I know it’s just how I’m sort of programmed, but I need to change that about myself.”

“Why would you need to change?” He asked.

“Well, because you don’t like it.” I blinked.

“I’m in love with you, why would I want you to change?” He asked me.

“Well, because…”

“Don’t change for someone else. Ever.” Kuori pulled me down onto the bed and held me. “Including me.”

“Alright, I promise.” I said closing my eyes.

“Have I scared you that much?” He asked.

“Huh?” I asked kinda groggy as he ran his fingers slowly up and down my back.

“All those times I’ve yelled or argued with you, I’ve scared you into trying to please me and distancing yourself sometimes, haven’t I?” He asked.

“Yeah…” I said sleepily. I really couldn’t lie, not in the state I was in.

“Oh.” He said.

“You being mad at me, is, my worst nightmare…” I said slowly. “I’ll, do anything, to avoid it.”

“Oh Mi, I’m so sorry…” He held me a bit tighter, and I couldn’t stay awake, not with the warmth I was feeding off of that was coming from his body. I relaxed my grip I had around him and fell asleep.

I opened my eyes and looked around. I remembered falling asleep in Kuori’s arms, and admitting that he scared me sometimes, and that I do force myself away from him because of being afraid of how he would react. He was no longer in my room, and I found a note on my pillow.

Miyuki,

I’m so sorry that I’ve done this to you. I did the exact opposite of what I wanted to do. I wanted you to feel like you could come to me with literally anything, and not be afraid to be yourself with me. I would do anything for you. I have an artifact I need to go get, it’s in the cave by the cliffs on the other side of the beach. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me, I’ve done more then you can even imagine, but that’s another story for another time. I love you very much, and I should be back at around 10:00 in the morning.
Kuori

I stopped and looked at the clock. It was 15 after 10. “Something’s wrong.” I decided. Kuori always showed up at the time he said he would show up at. I quickly got dressed, and told mom I was going to head to the beach for a while, and she didn’t object. I ran to the beach and stopped to catch my breath. “Why does the beach have to be so far away? And why does it have to be on the other side of the nearest part of the beach I can get to?!” I asked no one, frustrated. So as fast as I could, I followed the beach until it got more rocky, then waded into the water. I got stung by a stupid jellyfish, which hurt, but I kept going. I soon came upon a rather large, dark cave. “This must be it.” I muttered and made my way inside. As I expected it was very dark, so I used my phone for light. Ahead I saw something glowing from around a sharp corner, and as I got up onto the rocks out of the water, I turned the corner and saw Kuori reaching for a long staff that was glowing faintly yellow. He touched it and A blinding light exploded. “KUORI!” I screamed and the light instantly disappeared. He was laying next to the staff, which was no longer glowing. I rushed over to him and shook him. “Please wake up! Please!” I begged. His eyes slowly opened and I sighed in relief. “Good, you’re awake.” I smiled.

“W-What?” He stuttered. Quickly, he scrambled back away from me.

“Kuori? What’s wrong?” I asked, confused.

“How do you know me? Who are you?!”
