Spidertastic Summer 2014

So far, Peter Parker returned to life in The Superior Spider-Man No. 31, only to face struggles to adjust to the world as it was changed by his successor Otto Octavius. Now, get ready for one heck of a fun summer comic book season, Spider-Man readers as Marvel has quite a number of Spidey adventures to look out for.

First, June 11 will mark the release of The Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 3 No. 1.2, which will center around the beginning of Clash, the original Spider-Man's first super foe. Then on June 25, The Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 3 No. 3 will be released to continue from where ASM Vol. 3 No. 2 left out, but get ready as the Black Cat is about to assault the original Spider-Man, unaware that the Spidey she last met up with was Otto in Peter's body.

July 9 will see the volume 2 launch of Spider-Man 2099. Yes, Miguel O'Hara has his own series again, except we will be seeing his life in the present time. On the same day, Marvel will release 100th Anniversary Special: Spider-Man, which will feature a possible future where Peter Parker, in the year 2061 A.D., deals with Kingpin and the Venom symbiotic. The same day will also see the release of The Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 3 No. 1.3, which will center around the original Spider-Man's first battle with his first supervillain enemy.

Later on August 6, The Superior Spider-Man will return with issue 32, featuring an untold tale of Otto Octavius as part of Marvel's countdown to "Spider-Verse", the upcoming storyarc featuring various versions of Spider-Man from across multiple universes within the Marvel Universe canon. This upcoming arc will begin in The Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 3 No. 9 (coming in November).

Last but not least, August 27 will see the release of The Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 3 No. 1.4, to continue the story in ASM Vol. 3 No. 1.3.

News: July 2014 is Marvel 2061 Month

Good evening, Marvelites. In July 2014, Marvel Comics will be releasing a series of one-shots exploring the Marvel Universe in the year 2061 A.D.. According to PREVIEWSWorld, the stories, collectively refered to as "100th Anniversary Special", are created to deal with possible ends of the superhero careers of certain heroes or hero groups. For example, the one-shot 100th Anniversary Special: Spider-Man will take readers to a possible future end of Peter Parker as Spider-Man. Anyway, there will be 5 one-shots in the series and they are:

  • 100th Anniversary Special: Fantastic Four (coming 7/02/2014)
  • 100th Anniversary Special: Spider-Man (coming 7/09/2014)
  • 100th Anniversary Special: X-Men (7/16/2014)
  • 100th Anniversary Special: Avengers (7/23/2014)
  • 100th Anniversary Special: Guardians of the Galaxy

It's always nice to see possible futures for comic book superheroes being narrated, even though their respective series are still running because no one can predict how long they've got to run until their finales. Plus, human superheroes in fiction, like people in our real world, know they can't go on with their careers forever (the Bruce Wayne of the Batman Beyond Universe from DC Universe canon for example). For me, the Spider-man one is in maybe read list.

The Marvel Universe Mythos Turns 75

Not much to write there tonight, but according to the hosts of Innerspace, 3/07/2014 marked the 75th anniversary of the release of Marvel Comics No. 1, the first ever comic book item that Marvel Comics released, though at the time of release, the publisher was called "Timely Comics". In case some of you are new to the Marvel Universe experience, this comic book issue featured the 1st appearances of the first 2 featured protagonists of Marvel Universe mythos (the Original Human Torch and Namor the Sub-Mariner), though they were shown in separate segments of the issue itself.

Happy 75 years to both Marvel Comics and the Marvel Universe franchise with many more years of amazing epic stories to come!
