Today, I was visiting Deviantart to check out some Marvel Comics fan art and when checking out the website's Marvel-Universe group, I stopped to read a post not only revealing that critically acclaimed hit animated series The Avengers: Eath's Mightiest Heroes will be cancelled after its current season, but also containing a link to the petition to allow the show run its fully planned course. According to the petition's detail on the situation, Marvel Entertainment's Executive Vice-President Jeph Loeb felt that the story arcs in the this awesome show were too long for its target audience (youth audiences) and felt it is time to get rid of the show to make way for an animated Avengers series where every episode is not only self-contained (meaning that kids won't have to watch a previous episode to understand a more recent one's storyplot), but also more kid-friendly than the Avengers series currently running.
I have nothing against self-contained stories, but I find it is messed up that a television series gets axed while it is still strong in the nielsen ratings, and so far, The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes is one of the best Marvel Super-Hero-based T.V. series I have ever seen, although I started watching it a few weeks ago. Sometimes, I fear that non-comedy animation is not getting the respect it deserves from North America-based media execs, and I am so (bleep) fed up with kid-friendliness dominating North American animation, not that I have anything against making room for shows suitable for kids, but those execs cancelling this awesome show need to understand that not all audiences (counting kids) favor the kid-friendly and dumbed-down stuff for entertainment. I say those execs need to stop assuming what all kids want to watch on T.V., just like they need to stop assuming that all North American adults favor comedy animation over drama animation when the fact is that entertainment tastes vary depending on the viewer.
