The Romans had an interesting idea for it's time: take the best of your enemy and mesh with your own. Anything we think of as Roman most of the time came from their conquered. They were an empire that produced almost nothing yet had everything.
I know. I just wish the class would have focused more on their technological and scientific advancements (ex. wells, paving roads, sewers, earth revolves around the sun, etc.) than their... err... "playtime" (for lack of better comment-friendly words). You know, as in, covering things that the professor said would actually be on the test?
That was what the Romans did. They were a very interesting culture in comparison to ours. You can tell what a society values through what it expresses in its arts.
