And into the drink

-This is a continuation to the Halloween Chapter-

-Kuori-

“Mom, dad I’m home.” I called closing the door behind me.

“How was the dance?” My mom asked as I took my boots off at the door then brought them with me into the living room so I could talk to my parents.

“It was alright. Miyuki and I went into the haunted house that the drama club set up. It was well done. It scared Miyuki pretty good.” I smiled taking the wig off with my free hand.

“Well it sounds like you two had fun.” My dad stated looking up from the book that he was reading.

I nodded in agreement, “I did. I’m going to go take a shower.” I said then wandered back to my room and tossed my boots into my closet and then tossed the wig on my dresser so that I could grab a pair of shorts and go take a shower.

The shower felt nice and when I flopped down on my bed after tossing my clothes into the hamper I fell asleep rather quick.

I woke up to my phone buzzing next to my head. I groaned and looked at the caller ID to see who it was. It was Miyuki. I hit the answer button and brought the phone up to my ear as I lay there in bed.

“Hello?” I asked tiredly.

“I’m sorry Kuori, did I wake you?” She asked.

“It’s fine, what’s up?” I questioned sitting up in bed and running my free hand through my hair to try to get some of the snarls out.

“I’ve been doing some research and I’m stuck and I figured that I would ask if you could help me with it.” She started.

“Alright…where are you?” I said getting out of bed and wandering over to my dresser to get out some pants and a shirt.

“I’m at the public library.” She answered.

Before I could answer I heard a knock on the door. “Hold on a sec.” I dropped the phone down to my chest and held it there. “It’s open.” I said and my dad walked in.

“Can I talk to you for a minuet?” My dad asked noticing that I was on the phone.

I nodded and brought the phone back up to my ear. “Mi I’ll give you a text when I’m heading over.” I told her and then hung up. “What’s up?” I asked setting my phone on my dresser.

“Sorry about interrupting your conversation with Miyuki. While I was down in the basement trying to organize the detector went off.” He explained.

“Really…”I Sighed and leaned against my dresser “I was hoping to at least have one weekend off but what can you do when your family is cursed right.” I laughed lightly crossing my arms in front of my chest. “Do you know where the object is?” I asked.

“When I checked the detector said that it was somewhere in the park.” My dad said.

“Wow really in such a public place…how the hell did I miss it?” I asked not really wanting an answer to the question that I asked.

“I’m not too sure to be honest. Maybe because it wasn’t strong enough for you to detect on your own yet.” He suggested. “I wish I could help and say I know what you’re going through but with only being your step father I’m not really much help.” He said.

“Don’t worry about it. It’s not your fault and I know that you are doing the best you can. Thank you dad.” I smiled at him. “I’ll find it and bring it home.”

“It would probably be better if you went tonight so that people weren’t watching you try to get this object as Zero.” My dad suggested.

“I’ll do that. Probably around eight tonight would be better so that it’s only the street light that will be on.” I mentioned.

“That’s the best way to do it.” He agreed.

“It will also give me time to go and help Miyuki with whatever she needed help with.” I mentioned.

“Well try to have some fun today before you have to go and find that thing. Your mother and I will be going to the movies tonight just in case you get home before we do.” He said and walked out of the room and closed the door behind him.

I got dressed and then wandered out the door and started down the road. I pulled out my phone and let Miyuki know that I was heading out and that I would be there soon. When I got there I looked around and found Miyuki at one of the tables with books spread out across the table. As I walked over to her I was debating on scaring her, but then again I didn’t feel like I really wanted to be smacked so I just sat down in the opposite chair when I got to the table.

“Hey Kuori.” She smiled looking up for a split second then went back to her books.

“So what do you need help on?” I asked leaning on the table.

“Oh I figured it out actually.” She laughed a lightly.

I sighed and slouched into my chair. So I woke up earlier then I wanted to for nothing.

“I’m sorry.” Mi apologized.

“Don’t worry about it.” I smiled at her. “So what are you working on?” I asked.

“I’m trying not to procrastinate on this project for English.” She said writing something down in her notebook.

“Good for you.” I smiled a little trying to keep my voice down so we wouldn’t get in trouble.

I sat there for a few minuets then decided that I had to do something. “I’m going to go find a book just in case you need anymore help.” I mentioned getting up and wandering the many isles of books.

I wandered over to the ancient Egyptian section. I was always fascinated about ancient Egypt. I walked down the rows of books and I pulled out a random book and then wandered back to the table where Miyuki was still buried in her books. I sat down and read the back of the book. It was about a Pharaoh that I hadn’t heard about before. Zaki Hazem hum…I wonder what he did during his rain as pharaoh. I thought opening the book. He was young when he started his rule and he was always seen looking into magic books and learning about new things. One of the first things that caught my eye though was apparently Zaki had a older brother named Sashi who was deemed unworthy of the throne and it was instead given to Zaki. It’s also said that his older brother sold his soul to the darkness to wield dark magic and Zaki and Sashi fought over the throne. Zaki sacrificed himself to seal away Sashi’s dark magic and Exile him from Egypt.

The curse that was placed in his tomb sent chills up and down my spine. The first person who could make it through this endless maze and make it to my final chambers you will forever be cursed to see things that others can not and forever be an outcast doing what others will deem criminal. Magic is your curse and may this cursed be passed down through the generations until darkness is no more. My heart was racing as I finished reading the curse. Was this the curse of my family?

“Kuori…” Miyuki snapped me out of my thoughts and I looked up at her. “You okay?” She asked.

I smiled and nodded, “Yea this is just a really good book. You know how I get when I find an interesting book.” I was trying to calm down.

“Oh okay then. What book is it?” She asked curiously.

“It’s an ancient Egyptian book.” I stated.

“That’s interesting about who?” She muttered leaning over the table a bit to get a look at the cover.

“It’s about a Pharaoh Names Zaki Hazem. It’s pretty interesting. It says that he was involved in magic.” I stated.

Miyuki laughed a little, “Come on Magic doesn’t exist.” She waved at me and sat back down.

I stole her pen from her hand and wrote the name of the book and the author down on the back of my hand and then gave it back to her with a smile, “So what are you doing later tonight?” I asked.

“Don’t know yet. Do you have anything in mind?” she questioned going back to her books after she snatched her pen back from me before I could pull it away from her.

“I was thinking about going to the movies tonight around 8:30 did you want to go with me?” I said.

“As long as it’s not a scary movie I’m in. It will give me time to relax a bit.” She agreed.

“Awesome!!” I said a little bit louder then I meant to and I got a shush from the librarian. “I’ll meet you at the movie theater then?” I said a bit quieter.

“Sounds good.” She nodded.

~*~

“Do you have everything?” My dad asked as he got his shoes on.

“I do and I was planning on going to the movies with Miyuki afterwards so I have a shirt to go over this one.” I said as I changed into my alter ego self Zero.

“Are you going as Zero?” He asked a bit confused.

“No, he’s going as himself. Miyuki wants to capture Zero so she can get the story of the history, he wouldn’t see her as Zero on purpose.” My mom stated throwing the keys to my dad.

“Exactly.” I lied considering that I have done it countless times already but I will wait to tell her that.

“Be safe.” My dad said before they walked out the door.

“I will…” I said before the door shut. “I hope.” I stated after the door was shut and they couldn’t hear me.

I walked back into my room and grabbed my bag and threw on my boots. I looked at the back of my hand and saw that I didn’t get the pen off all the way but I would get if off when I got back home from the movies when I took a shower. I locked the front door and went out the back door. Off to the park I went. I walked past a few kids that were running home because the streetlights were on and they were probably going to get in trouble because they were out after dark. It took me about twenty minuets to get to the park. A little bit faster then it usually would take me but I had to get there by eight o’ clock so that way I could find it then get to the movie theater by 8:30.

I couldn’t find anything by the playground so I made my way to the fountain. I could see it glowing like a star in the sky. Well I could see it, Everyone else just walks past it like it’s nothing out of the ordinary. They can’t see it…forever alone…but I had to get back to business. It was an arrow hear on the damn angels arrow and it was almost at the top. I sighed and then stepped up onto the edge of the fountain and got up onto my toes but I still couldn’t reach it. I didn’t want to jump or lean on anything because of the water and I didn’t bring another pair of shoes or pants so I needed to be careful.

“If I was just a little taller…” I muttered guestimating that it was probably a little under a foot away from me being able to grab it… Wait…herp derp…I’m such an idiot. I thought to myself as I mentally slapped myself in the head. I can make myself taller…I started making myself taller “all…most there…” I muttered then my foot slipped and I feel into the water. Damn it…just what I didn’t want to happen. I came up out of the water coughing a bit and I heard laughing. I turned to see Miyuki standing next to the fountain laughing at me.

“What are you doing here?” I asked wringing out my hair sitting in the fountain.

“I was on my way to the movies when I saw you. So I was coming over to stop you from whatever you were going for and you fell in.” She explained.

“Gee thanks. That makes me feel so much better.” I sighed, “Now get, I’m busy.” I said standing up.

“Have you gotten taller?” She asked tilting her head at me.

“Maybe…” I said getting out of the water and wringing out a part of my pants. I was happy that I took my bag off and set it down before I went for the arrow head. “Why is that so important?”

“Because I want to know.” She mentioned.

“I don’t have time for this.” I muttered and then turned back to the fountain and took a few steps back then got a decent running start before I jumped up and snatched the arrowhead. I thought that I would land on the other side of the edge of the fountain and instead my foot hit the corner of it and I fell back into the water. My balance was really off being taller but I could shrink back down with Miyuki standing right there.

“Ugh…” I groaned as Miyuki started laughing again. I turned and was about to say something to her when I had to cover my eyes from the brightness of the arrowhead.

Miyuki’s laughing stopped and turned into a small scream.

“Miyuki!” I yelled, but I couldn't see here at all.
