Arrival

Xenosa kicked at the wind-rider, forcing it to increase its already break-neck pace. These things were no tame ponies, the creatures were wild and dangerous. That is, if you didn't know how to handle it.

"How you hanging there lip-stitcher?" She screamed over the bellowing wind to Calypso.

Calypso was crouched down close to the neck of Jacinta, her rider, and laughed wildly.

Scruby trees and sparse grasses were dotted throughout the sandy terrain. Dust formed in huge trails behind the girls as they raced to Lakarlica. The ride was fairly smooth as the animals were true to their name, they were riding the winds, angling their winds for balance and support. Everything was smooth, that is, until Xenosa peered ahead to she the land suddely ended about three hundred yards ahead and they were coming up fast. Real fast.

"PULL UP!" she screamed at Calypso, trying to think "GET IN THE AIR THE LAND IS..."

She wasn't able to finish the sentence properly. The creatures had already propelled themselves off the cliff. But it didn't feel like they had stopped running. Xenosa could still feel the muscle movement beneath her. The only difference was, the winds on either side of her were pumpimg in rotations like the dragons in fantasy stories. They had hardly even slowed.

"What was that?" Calypso called. The smile on her face was smug. She totally knew that this would happen. She sat there the whole time being all smartsy and let Xenosa panic and forget that the animals' wings weren't just for show.

Xen felt embarassed. Luckily though Calypso couldn't see her cheeks burning. She surveyed the area with a bird's eye view. After an hour of flying she could see a steady line in the distance.

"We're almost at land again!" she yelled to Calypso. Cal nodded and began to bring the rider down, little by little. Within minutes the two were back on the ground and speeding through the now thicker trees.

"MY ASS HURTS!" Xenosa screamed. She had been riding for hours now.

**********

Two hours later Xenosa was circling lower and lower over Lakarlika. For a city-state it sure was small.

She felt almost nothing as the riders touched down. Imediatly she took them to a stable area on the far side of town. She noticed a group of people dispersing in pairs into the nearest inn.

"Hey Cal, I wanna stay in that inn tonight, see what all the hub-bub is, k?"

"I thought we were her to talk to the other vespers."

"Yeah, so, we will, after we see what all these people are doing here. They're not Lakarlican and they're definatly not Vespers. Some don't even look Atalian let alone Eschazen."

Calypso sighed, "whatever, just don't be too idiotic."

Then Xenosa saw her. She was a tiny, platinum blonde chick walking into the inn where Xen had decided to stay. But it wasn't the girl she was looking at. It was the thread through her lips.

"Cal, we have a problem."

Calypso's hand went to her blind fold. "What."

"There's another Vesper here."

"Isn't that why we're here you dumb ass?" she said dropping her hand and looking annoyed.

"No, we're here for Lakarlican Vespers. They are all Neck-stictchers. This one's got lip stitches."

"You sure?"

"Duh im sure, its not like im a blind rat like you."

Calypso didn't respond to the comment. She had an eerie feeling things here were not going to go as planned. She suddenly thought of her sister. Why would she think of her at a time like this?
