Why AMVs are Good for Music

I know I've had this conversation with someone before. But I was thinking about it recently while I was listening to some music. Once in a while, I go on a binge collecting AMVs. AMVs are popular targets for copyright violation on YouTube. I do kind of understand why, but here's the thing -- they regularly SELL ME MUSIC. I have tracked down so many songs on iTunes thanks to hearing them in AMVs -- some of the songs, I never would have discovered otherwise.

Here's a list of songs I've bought thanks to AMVs.

  • Just Be - DJ Tiesto
  • Hold Your Color - Pendulum (I know NOTHING else by this artist.)
  • Stand in the Rain - Superchick (Ditto)
  • Missing - Evanescence
  • You Gotta Go - Above & Beyond
  • Krewella - Human (I would never have looked at this artist otherwise - the album this is from is marked Explicit on iTunes)
  • Lost and Found - Delerium
  • Pieces - Red
  • Be Somebody - Thousand-Foot Krutch (I know NOTHING else by this artist.)
  • Lost - VAST (Bought several other songs by this artist after hearing this one.)
  • Mouth 2 Mouth - Kate Havnevik (Bought another song by this artist after hearing this.)
  • Show Me What I'm Looking For - Carolina Liar (I know NOTHING else by this artist.)
  • Tell Me - Au Revoire Simone (I know NOTHING else by this artist.)
  • Easy - SayCet (Bought several other songs by this artist after hearing this one.)

... And this is probably not even all of them.

What do you think? Do you buy songs thanks to AMVs?
