~*~Part 8~*~
Aberius
Aberius and Raishi stood back to back staring down the rogue Beedril. A drop of sweat ran down the back of Aberius' neck. Aberius clicked his tongue in frustration.
"What do we do now?" he inquired of Raishi.
"Well -kirin..." Raishi gulped, "the only thing I see us doing is fighting them all..."
"Doesn't look like we have many other options, huh?" Aberius braced himself as Raishi did the same.
"Ano-sa... How many moves do you know -kirin...?"
"Technically? Zero... I never had the chance to learn."
"Aren't you supposed to know a couple from birth?!"
"I'm the runt of my village..."
"... Well that doesn't work in our favor, now does it...?"
The sun began to lower over the tops of the trees. Not good... Aberius thought. I'm running out of time... Suddenly, a Beedril came charging at the two of them. They ducked out of the way before they could get hit. Aberius rolled then got to his feet. Guess it's gonna be a scrimmage, huh? The two of them got back to back again.
"Well, we're not gonna get anyway just dodging -kirin. We should hit 'em a few times where it hurts, ya?" Raishi said. Aberius nodded. He reached inside his inner jacket pocket and pulled out a special pair of gloves his father had given him before he disappeared. These gloves had claws on the fingers. They had many uses, but their main use was for Scratch Attacks. He slipped them on and stretched his hands. He still could not use scratch attack properly, but having those gloves was better than nothing.
The Beedril charged at them en masse, this time. Raishi and Aberius broke their stance and charged back at them.
"HAAHH!" Aberius yelled as he scratched two Beedril, both of them dropping. Alright... they seem to be numerous, but a lot of them are weak. Aberius continue to attack more.
"Thunder!" Raishi yelled as let out a massive wave of electricity at a group of Beedril on the other side.
The two of them continued battling. They seemed to have the upper hand. Aberius found his scratch attack improving. I guess I just needed to some practice... Even if it's the only move I can use now... It's better than before. The Beedril backed away to the perimeter of the clearing.
"Alright -kirin!" Raishi yelled. "Are they retreating because of our attacks?" He grinned triumphantly.
However, the Beedril began to buzz loudly. Aberius watched them closely and noticed their movement blurring. Were they getting faster...?
~*~Intermission~*~
Hey guys, it's getting really hot, so I'm losing my focus... I'll add more later... Gomen *bows and passes out* =@_@;=
Edit: Alright guys, I'm back and my brain's less melted so let's resume with part 8!
~*~Continuation: Ambushed by Beedril~*~
Aberius looked all around. The remaining Beedril were spinning around the perimeter at high speed, producing a high-pitched whirring noise. Raishi charged at the wall only to be repelled and thrown back to the center.
"Ack...!" Raishi coughed, wiping blood from his mouth.
Suddenly, a blur came at the two of them. Aberius felt his arm get sliced without really seeing the attacker.
"Argh...!" Aberius fell to one knee, holding the cut on his arm.
One after one, the Beedril attacked with high speed movements, slicing away at them bit by bit. Aberius growled to himself. Dammit...! he grimaced in anger. At this rate, we're going to become food for their nest... His vision started to blur. Aberius sunk to one knee, holding his arm. Everything started to move in slow motion. C'mon, Aberius, you've got to do something! You can't sit here and let them turn you to mince meat...! He looked up and saw one of the Beedril heading straight towards him, about to attack with a poisoned claw. He tried to rise, but his legs were locked. Dammit...! Dammit all! Come on! Aberius cried in frustration. Get up... Move... MOVE!!! At that moment, Aberius felt his blood boil. He felt his body move out of the way at the last second. He turned around and launched an attack at the Beedril. The enemy put up a guard, but Aberius felt a power surge through him and he ripped through the defenses and knocked the Beedril across the clearing. Raishi turned around and looked at Aberius in surprise.
"Y-you..." he stuttered, eyes wide, "you just used feint, didn't you -k-kirin?"
Aberius looked at his hand, shaking. He had never felt what it was like to learn a new move... He clenched his fist and smirked at Raishi. "Guess I’m not as weak as I thought, huh...?" he said, then turned around facing the Beedril's wall of defense. "I guess it's about time I tore down that wall of yours, huh?" Aberius tensed his muscles and then charged at one side of the clearing, launching his new move at the wall. A few Beedril flew out of formation explosively.
Raishi smirked. "Yosh..." he pulled on his collar, "Guess I should do it too, eh -kirin?" Raishi charged at the other wall with a quick attack. "FEINT!!" he yelled as more Beedril exploded out of formation.
The two of them kept up their barrage of feint attacks at the Beedril's defense until only one was left standing. The lone Beedril looked on in fear and raised his hands.
"P-please...!" he said, shaking. "L-let me go free! I didn't mean any harm!"
Aberius stepped forward and the Beedril fell onto his hindquarters. Aberius clenched a fist and grinned down at the Beedril with an angry expression. "You know, you should have thought of that before you attacked us... I'm in a rather foul mood as you interrupted my important task. Next time, don't get so hot-headed..." Aberius wound up and punched the last Beedril square in the jaw, knocking him out. Aberius sighed, feeling the strain of the battle. He had already spent several hours out in the forest.
"This isn't good..." he murmured, "at this rate, I won't make it back to Brock's in time..." he began to run toward the entrance of the forest and Raishi ran after him.
"Brock?" he asked. "You mean the Pewter City gym leader? I know where he lives -kirin. I've ventured to the city before. I owe him for helping me. I can make it there faster, and you look worn out from your big battle. You need the antidote plants to help someone, right?" Aberius nodded. "I can take it there."
Aberius frowned to himself. He'd just met this kid, but he needed to get the antidote back in time, or Kitty was done for... He sighed and handed the bag to Raishi.
"If you don't do your job right, I'll come hunting you down, understand?" Aberius told him.
"Just leave it to me -kirin!" Raishi said, taking the bag, then taking off at top speed. Aberius hoped that he made the right decision as he continued running towards Pewter city.
~~
Two hours later, Aberius arrived at the entrance to Pewter city. He breathed hard since he'd run the entire way. He swallowed and willed himself to keep moving. It was just a bit further to Brock's house. He limped his way in that direction, breathing hard. Just a bit further... I'll see if I made the right decision or if all that work was in vain... The house came into his vision. He walked up to the door, took a deep breath, and knocked.
"It's Aberius!" he shouted through the door.
"Oh Aberius!" came the voice of Brock's mother. The door opened. She looked tired. "Please come this way." Aberius followed Brock mother to the room where Kitty was lying. "She's right through there. Go see her..."
Aberius swallowed and pushed the door open. He stepped over the threshold and saw the scene...
Kitty sat there, smiling her usual smile, yet somewhat weakly. The color had returned to her skin. She raised a hand and grinned. "Yo, Abbie. Where ya been? Brock's medicine worked. I'm gonna be right as rain."
Aberius stared ahead in shock. He took a step forward with stony leg. Then another. And another. When he was in front of Kitty, he collapsed with his head in her lap. He felt a warm stinging in his eye as tears ran down his cheeks.
"Kitty.... Kitty...!" he choked out. She pet his head.
"It's alright..." she cooed. "I'm alright... You did very good, Aberius... I told you that you were stronger than you thought."
Aberius continued to sob tears that he'd held in for years. Tears he held back trying to be strong after being bullied, beaten, and persecuted for so long. He let them fall as he held on to Kitty, relieved that he had not let her die. Relieved that he was not to weak to protect her.
{{}} The Next Day {{}}
Kitty was back to her normal self as they walked out of Brock's house.
"Thanks for all your help Brock... Lola," Kitty said, nodding to Brock and his mother.
Aberius nodded to Brock and Lola as well, "Yes thank you both. You really did a lot for us."
Kitty turned to the Pikachu gijinka that had a helping hand and had stuck around. "And you too, Raishi. If you hadn't helped out Abbie, I'd probably be dead." She rustled Raishi's hair and he blushed and rubbed his nose.
"Ahahaha..." Raishi said. "It wasn't any big deal," he grinned as big as Kitty.
Aberius stepped forward, "Yes, I'm glad you were there. Despite the fact that you were annoying to begin with, you're actually pretty reliable"
"Oy -kirin..." Raishi squinted his eyes. Aberius laughed.
"But in all seriousness, thank you. Really if it weren't for you, I couldn't have pulled this off. Thank you, Raishi..." Aberius smiled gently... something that he hadn't shown for years, either.
"You're welcome. Ano-sa, you're alright, yourself... Despite usually sucking the fun out of things -kirin," Raishi grinned.
Aberius shrugged, "Fair enough. So you're not going back to Viridian Forest?"
"Nah," Raishi waved, "it's not all that great. And anyway, I decided to stay with Brock. I owe him my life from the time he saved it in the past. So I'll help him out with him gym leader duties. He said he's gonna teach me how to cook, too!" Raishi put his hands behind his head and grinned.
Aberius stepped forward, "Then I guess this is where we part ways."
"Yeah -kirin," Raishi replied with a grin.
The two of them hooked arms as a farewell. They had formed a bond that couldn't be broken in battle and would remember each other forever. Aberius stepped back and rejoined Kitty.
"Then we'll see you guys again, someday!" Kitty said waving.
The rest of them waved back. "Please don't be a stranger and come visit whenever you're in town," Lola said smiling warmly as she waved.
Kitty and Aberius finished waving and made their way out of town. When they reached the exit, Aberius stopped.
"Kitty," he said.
Kitty turned around and looked at him, "Yes, Abbie, what is it?"
Aberius grabbed her and pulled her in for an embrace. Kitty looked suprised, but didn't pull away.
"I was frustrated..." Aberius said, "with myself. I felt at times I couldn't do anything to help you. I found that I am not as weak as I always thought... However, I want to get stronger... I want to be able to protect you better... You took me away from my hometown... The only place I'd ever known... The place I was most afraid of and hated, but couldn't let go of... I don't want the only person I can rely on from here on out to die... And... I never want to have to taste or see your blood ever again if I can help it...!" Aberius pulled away and looked at Kitty seriously. "Please help me to train... so that I can protect you and never have to go through that, again. I'm tired of losing people... Please train me to become stronger!"
Kitty stared into Aberius' eyes. Her expression softened and she nodded. Aberius stepped back and the two of them left Pewter City, starting their journey together... the two of them now bonded together by an unbreakable chain.
