I love this quote because it admits that there are times for frowning, but also makes it clear that happiness is important. There are many things that can make us sad, angry, or frustrated, but we have the choice, more often than not, to decide whether or not we allow those things to control our emotions. Before you let something ruin your day, take a deep breath, look at the situation, and see if is really worth being upset over.
That isnt to say that your feelings dont matter, because they most certainly do. The point is that emotions can be irrational, and it is important to see the situation from every angle. Also, it is important that if something is hurting your feelings, you dont try to ignore it, or pretend it is not there. Even if you try to hide your hurt, or keep it quietly inside of you, those feelings will be with you and affect the way you live. If you can do something about your source of pain, then try to calmly correct your situation. Confide in your friends, change your circumstances, and know that only you have the power to control you.
Smiling is a beautiful ability, that shows we are happy. So the next time you measure your sorrows, dont forget to also remember your joys!
