The Second Meeting

On the way home, Kai’s mind kept drifting back to Kyungsoo and he wondered why the boy was in the tree in the first place. This strange wide-eyed boy had piqued Kai’s interest. If we meet again. His own words rang through his ears and Kai found himself wondering when that “again” would be. He was already anticipating their next meeting. When will I see you again, my angel?
~
Kyungsoo stood there, still shocked at what happened. Someone, who had been curiously watching the scene from the park bench three feet from where Kyungsoo was. The stranger noticed the still Kyungsoo and bounded over excitedly, slapping Kyungsoo on the shoulder as he greeted him.

“Heya!”

“What?” Kyungsoo spun around to meet the assaulter, “Oh, it’s just you.”

“That cute boy was right, all you ever say is that word,” the new arrival’s eyes sparkled.

“You heard that?” sighed Kyungsoo.

“You bet! Every. Single. Word,” the other winked.

“Luhan!” he cried, hitting the other playfully.

“Hey now! That hurts, Kyungsoo,” the boy, Luhan faked a hurt expression.

“Sorry.”

“It’s alright~” Luhan giggled.

“What were you doing over there anyway?” Kyungsoo wondered.

“Well,” Luhan explained, “I was walking through the park and noticed you climbing a tree-“

“You were there that long?”

“Didn’t I tell you I saw the whole thing? Now quit interrupting me! I’m telling my story,” Luhan joked.

“Sorry,” Kyungsoo hung his head, “go on.”

“Anyways. You were climbing the tree and I wondered what you were trying to do, then noticed the ca-“

“THE KITTEN!” Kyungsoo screamed as he remembered why he was up in that tree in the first place.

“HEY! I wasn’t finished my story!” Luhan ran after Kyungsoo, who had bolted back up the tree to get to the kitten.

“I have to save her!” Kyungsoo cried desperately.

“Here, toss her down to me. I’ll catch her. Then you make your way down the tree carefully,” Luhan instructed, holding out his arms.

“Be careful with her!”

“I should say the same to you! Oh gosh, Kyungsoo, please don’t fall again,” Luhan half joked.

Kyungsoo dropped the kitten gently for Luhan to catch and proceeded to make his way down the tree. On his way down, Kyungsoo nearly slipped and fell again. When he could feel the ground, he let go off the tree. Losing his footing, Kyungsoo fell to the ground on his butt, resulting in Luhan rushing to his side.

“Geez, Kyungsoo! You nearly gave me a heartattack,” cried the doe-eyed boy.

“Sorry,” Kyungsoo apologized for the nth time that day, “is the kitten hurt?”

“Yeah, she’s fine. How about you?”

“No sweat,” he laughed.

“Alright lover boy, let’s get you home,” Luhan teased, “before you fall again and land on anymore guys.”

“Wha-“

“Hmm, that’s not a bad idea,” Luhan muttered.

“What did you say? What’s not a bad idea?”

“Nothing~” he giggled teasingly and ran ahead with the kitten cradled in his arms.

“Hey! Get back here, Luhan!” Kyungsoo called after him, laughing.
~
Kai woke up quite early this morning and decided to get an extra hour of running in before he started his day. He made a few rounds around his neighborhood before deciding he was tired of the same scene. Making his way around the corner in the direction of the park, Kai collided into someone, hard.

“Hey! Watch it!” yelled the boy.

You weren’t watching were you were running, either!” Kai started to argue before realizing who he had bumped into, “Sehun?”

“Oh, well if it isn’t Kai.”

“What are you doing out so early?” they both asked at the same time causing the two to laugh.

“You went out for a run, too?” Sehun guessed.

“Yep. Woke up way too early,” Kai sighed.

“Same,” he agreed, “any particular reason?”

“Just. Thoughts,” Kai confessed.

“Oh? What about?” Sehun interrogated, “Let’s walk while we talk.”

“I met an angel at the park yesterday.”

“Angel?”

“Yes. Angel. He fell from the sky.” This caused Sehun to laugh uncontrollably.

“Really? An angel. That fell from the sky?” Sehun repeated slowly still laughing.

“That’s how it is,” Kai shrugged, “I was lying on the grass trying to nap and
down fell this boy!” He explained with excited hand motions.

“Oh. Well. That’s-,” Sehun paused trying to find the right words, “interesting.”

“It was pretty interesting. I can’t stop thinking about the strange encounter. He was cute though.”

“Is that all you know about him? That he was cute?”

“His name was Kyungsoo.”

“A name and a face. Do you plan on seeing him again? Sounds like you had an interesting day.”

“I don’t know. I want to,” Kai confessed. “He doesn’t know my name.”

“You didn’t tell him your name?” Sehun sounded really surprised, “You asked for his name and you didn’t give yours in return? Have you no manners?”

“Hey! I’m the older one here! I have more manners than you! You should be calling me hyung!” Kai countered.

“That’s beside the point,” Sehun sighed and rubbed a hand down his face.

“Whatever,” Kai brushed off the topic. “What about you? Thoughts invade your mind too? Is it a girl?”

“Hah. Yeah right. Only if that were the case.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

“I met an angel yesterday, too,” Sehun explained.

“Oh?” The mention of the word piqued Kai’s interest.

“Yeah. But this one didn’t fall from the sky,” he sighed. “I was the one who
fell. Hard.”

“What?”

“When I first saw him, I though he was a girl. A girly girl with a tomboyish style. Or something! I don’t know!” Sehun threw his arms up in an exasperated sigh.

“I don’t get you. So it was a girl?”

“NO!” Sehun grunted. “The angel was male! A guy!”

“What’s wrong with a pretty boy?”

“Don’t you understand?” Sehun let out a frustrated noise. “I fell for him! That
makes me gay!”

“I don’t understand the problem.”

“I. Like. A. Guy,” Sehun exaggerated each syllable.

“Okay? So?”

“Let me spell it out for you. Me falling for a guy makes me gay. My parents-?” Sehun waited for it to click in his friend’s head. Apparently a wasted effort. “Alright. Nevermind. Clearly you aren’t as bright as you look. And you don’t look too smart to begin with.”

“I don’t get why you’re freaking out about all this. What’s wrong with liking a guy?”

“It’s not that I’m freaking out about liking a guy! My parents would flip if they found out! They’d disown me!”

“So go run off with this guy then.”

“It’s not that simple.”

“Okay. You lost me again.”

“Forget it, you’re no help,” Sehun sighed.

“Let’s move off of this topic,” Kai tried.

“Fine by me,” Sehun agreed. “Tell me more about this angel of yours.”

“I don’t know anything else! Stop bringing it up! The more we talk about it, the more I want to see him again.”

“Alright, alright.”

“Hey, let’s go get some food. I’m hungry,” Kai complained.

“I know a great place,” Sehun offered.
~
The sound of his phone ringing startled Kyungsoo, causing him to fall out of bed.
“Hello?” he groggily answered.

“Kyungsoo! Morning sleepy head~” the voice on the other line chirped, “how long do you plan on sleeping?”

“Luhan, what are you taking about? It’s only-“ Kyungsoo rubbed his eyes to take a look at the clock “already almost noon!?” He scrambled out of bed and went to wash up and change. "Why didn't you wake me up?"

“Because you looked so peaceful sleeping," Luhan joked. "And I did. You just swatted me away. And I thought that I was the hard one to wake up. Anyway, when you’re ready, let’s go get something to eat!” Luhan giggled and hung up.
~
Kyungsoo and Luhan walked into the diner and were quickly seated in a booth beside the window. Looking through the menus, Luhan caught a glimpes of two figures walk past their window.

“Hey,” Luhan whispered over the table to Kyungsoo, “it’s your guy!”

“My guy? What are you-” Kyungsoo cut himself off as he saw the two guys step into the diner, “Did you plan this?” He sent a glare over to his best friend.

“Of course not! I don’t even know what his name is!”

“Neither do I,” Kyungsoo mumbled.

“You don’t know his name?” Luhan shrieked.

“Shhh! They’ll hear you!” hissed Kyungsoo.

“Hey!” Luhan got up from his seat to call the two over. “They’re with us.” He smiled at the confused waitress and grabbed the two boys by the wrist, leading them to their table.
~
Sehun lead Kai in the direction of the diner. “-his name?” The two heard someone say loud enough for the whole diner to hear. Sehun paled as he looked in the direction where the shriek came from. “No,” he muttered under his breath.

“What’s wrong?” Kai looked over at his friend.

“He’s here,” Sehun sighed.

“Who?”

“My angel.”

“Hey!” Sehun’s angel yelled in their direction. “They’re with us” he explained to the waitress, that was about to seat the two, and smiled. Sehun thought his heart had stopped on the spot.

“What are you-“ Kai began until he caught sight of his angel.

“Hello again?” Kai’s angel shyly greeted.

“Hey there gorgeous,” he said, making the boy blush and avert his eyes.

“Here, sit,” Luhan plopped Kai in the seat he had previously been sitting in. He proceeded to take the seat next to Kyungsoo, leaving the seat across from Luhan the only seat left for Sehun. Sehun swallowed before taking his seat.
There was only one word to explain this situation. Awkward. But Luhan didn’t seem to think so because he sat there smiling at Kai and Kyungsoo. He cleared his throat before speaking again.

“Let’s introduce ourselves. I’m Luhan,” the doe-eyed boy smiled. “What’s yours?” he asked the nervous boy in front of him.

“Sehun,” the tall boy mumbled.

“You’re so cute,” Luhan giggled and ruffled Sehun’s hair, causing the latter to blush profusely.

“You said you’d tell me your name when we meet again,” Kyungsoo spoke up.

“That’s true. I did say that,” Kai grinned.

“Are you boys ready to order?” the waitress awkwardly interrupted the four. They all placed their orders before continuing their conversation.

“You must be the other angel,” he looked to Luhan and smiled. Sehun just punched Kai in the side. “Ow, easy there,” Kai smirked.

“Angel?” Luhan asked, curious. Kai only hummed in agreement.

“Hey! You’re avoiding my question!” Kyungsoo shot out.

“Sorry, Angel. One thing at a time,” Kai laughed.

“Do explain this whole ‘angel’ thing first. I get why Kyungsoo is your angel, but what did you mean when you called me the ‘other angel’?” asked Luhan, curious about this whole “angel” ordeal.

“Hmmm~ I wonder if I should tell you?” Kai teased and glanced at his friend sitting beside him.

“Don’t you dare,” Sehun hissed.

“So, am I your angel then?” Luhan smiled at Sehun.
Sehun just squeaked. Kai laughed at the younger, earning him a hard punch in the shoulder.

“I guess he’ll tell you when he’s ready,” Kai nodded in Sehun’s direction, rubbing at his right shoulder.

“Alright,” Luhan, sounding a bit reluctant, obeyed. “So that means we’ll see more of you two?” He said, a bit hopeful.

Definitely,” Kai said looking at Kyungsoo.

The waitress came back with their orders and placed their food in front of each of them. They started to eat their meals as they continued where they left off in their conversation.

“Will you tell me your name now?” Kyungsoo said in between bites.

“His name’s Kai,” said Sehun before taking another mouthful.

“Hey! Why’d you tell him that?”

“Payback.”

“You weren’t planning on telling me your name?”

“This loser likes playing hard to get,” Sehun joked.

“Who’re you calling a loser?” Kai acted offended and added, “Call me hyung, you brat.”

“No wa-“

“Hyung?” Luhan questioned. “How old are you?”

“Nineteen,” Kai said matter-of-factly.

“Eighteen, but I’ll be nineteen in a month,” Sehun added quickly.

“How old are you two?” asked Kai.

“Well, I’m twenty two and Kyungsoo is twenty,” Luhan said sheepishly.

“You’re twenty two?” both said at the same time. “You don’t look your age at all,” Kai added.

“Yeah, I get that a lot,” Luhan scratched the back of his neck awkwardly.

“So we’d call you both hyung then?”

“You don’t have to,” Luhan laughed. “It’d feel weird for you two to call me hyung.”

“But now that I think about it, Luhan, your name doesn’t sound Korean,” Sehun pointed out. “Are you Chinese?”

“How’d you know?” Luhan looked a little taken aback by this observation.

“Our Sehunnie here is majoring in Chinese~” Kai teased.

“You’re majoring in Chinese?”

“Yeah,” Sehun nodded nervously.

“I could help you practice!” Luhan happily offered.

“Would you?” Sehun nearly blushed at the offer. “Then, how about if I call you Luhan ge? If that’s alright with you?”

“That’d be great!”

“Luhan’s always wanted someone to call him “ge” but no one has ever wanted to,” Kyungsoo laughed and added, “You probably just made him the happiest kid in the world.”

“Oh shut up you!” Luhan gave Kyungsoo a light shove.

“So, Luhan ge and Kyungsoo,” Sehun thought for a while, “hyung?”

“There’s not much of an age gap, you can just call me by my name,” Kyungsoo offered.

“You’re still older than me,” Sehun complained. “It’ll feel weird.”

“It’d be weirder for a giant kid like you calling a shortie like me ‘hyung.’” This statement caused Kai and Luhan to laugh uncontrollably, whereas Sehun pondered over this point.

“Wait a minute. Why don’t you ever call me hyung?” Kai accused.

“Because you’re only older than me by a few months!” countered Sehun.

“Alright, alright. Children should not argue so loudly in a public place,” reprimanded Kyungsoo teasingly. All four just burst out into a fit of laughter.

“You guys finished?” Luhan asked as he flagged down the waitress for the bill. All three nodded together like bobble heads. When the waitress arrived with their bill, each pitched in their money for their meal and tip. “Where do you guys want to go now?”

“We could go to our apartment?” Kyungsoo offered.

“Let’s go then! Lead the way,” Kai said as he slung an arm over Kyungsoo’s shoulders, leaving Sehun to walk beside Luhan. Sehun looked beside him, a blush making its way across his face as Luhan gently smiled at him. The sudden eye contact made Sehun look away in embarrassment.
~
“Wow, your apartment is so-” Kai began. “Clean,” Sehun finished for him.

“Isn’t it?” Luhan grinned proudly. Kyungsoo just sighed as he slumped on the couch.

“So you two live together?” Sehun thought aloud.

“Why? Jealous?” Kai snickered earning himself a jab in the side by none other than Sehun.

“Jealous? What reason does he have to be jealous?” Luhan tilted his head in curiosity.

“Little Sehunnie li- hmph,” Sehun slapped a hand over Kai’s mouth.

“I just, I’m jealous that you guys have your own place,” Sehun shrugged. Kai held back a laugh.

“You don’t have your own place?”

“My parents are a little…strict, I guess.”

“Understatement of the year,” Kai muttered under his breath. “They’re complete whack jobs.” Another jab. “Would you stop elbowing me?”

“When you learn to keep your mouth shut,” Sehun growled.

“Alright, alright. I’ll stop,” Kai surrendered with a laugh.

“Good.”

“You two are interesting,” Luhan giggled.

Both Kai and Sehun looked over at the oldest in the room. Just then something brushed against Sehun’s ankle. Slightly startled by the sudden contact, Sehun jumped a little. Meow. Luhan giggled as he walked over to pick up the kitten.

“Isn’t she adorable?” Luhan hummed as he nuzzled the kitten.

“Yeah,” Sehun mused at the sight, blushing slightly when their eyes met. He cleared his throat before saying, “What’s her name?”

“We haven’t picked one yet,” Kyungsoo spoke up from where he had quietly been sitting.

“So did you just get her?” Kai questioned.

“Kyungsoo found her stuck in a tree at the park yesterday,” Luhan chuckled.

“Yesterday?” asked Sehun.

“In a tree?” Kai seemed amused.

“In a tree,” Luhan confirmed snickering as he looked over at Kyungsoo who was now turning beet-red at the memory of yesterday’s event.

“Is that what you were doing up there?” Kyungsoo looked down at his lap silently cursing his supposed best friend.

“She was scared! I had to help her,” Kyungsoo defended.

“Who was going to help you had I not been there to break your fall?” Kai teased.

“Whatever,” Kyungsoo waved off the topic.

“So what should we name her? Any suggestions?” Luhan asked. The four boys sat around thinking of a name for the white fur ball. They watched the kitten as she pranced around the open space. “How about 小白 (xiǎo bái)?” Luhan suggested.

“I like it. It’s pretty simple and cute,” Sehun nodded in agreement.

“Except it’s in Chinese,” Kai said. “What does it mean?”

“It literally means ‘little white’,” Sehun translated the name.

“I think it suits her nicely. It’s perfect,” Kyungsoo decided.

“小白,” Luhan cooed. The kitten came over to where Luhan was lying on the ground and nuzzled against his hand. “She seems to like the name as well.”

“Then, Xiao bai it is.”
~
The four of them lazed around the rest of the afternoon chatting and playing with the kitten. By the time the sun was setting, Sehun figured it was time he head home before his parents started freaking out. “I should get going soon, my parents would probably start to call soon,” Sehun reluctantly stated.

“Awww, leaving so soon?” Luhan seemed a little disappointed. “If you tell them that you got someone to tutor you in Chinese for free, maybe they’ll go easy on you.” he winked.

“Yeah, I guess,” Sehun blushed.

“Hand me your phone,” ordered Luhan as he held out a hand. Sehun placed his phone in the other’s hand not quite sure what he was planning on doing with it. Luhan pressed a few buttons before handing it back to its owner. “My number. It’s more convenient to exchange numbers rather than wait to see when we’d next meet,” Luhan smiled up at the younger. “I already got yours.”

“Uh, yeah thanks,” Sehun’s cheeks flushed bright red.

“Okay that’s enough flirting, time to get you home before your mom flips,” Kai grabbed the back of Sehun’s collar and started to pull him out the door. “Catch you guys later,” He waved goodbye before dragging Sehun out.

“Thanks for having us over,” Sehun said just before the door closed.
