Nine years ago, myOtaku opened, and I flung onto my username as fast as I could.
Heyo. Journal's been obscenely quiet, and that is because I've pretty much moved on from theO.
Well, I haven't quite "moved on" so much as drifted off and using the site solely for Chat. Lots of things have changed between this time last year and now, not the least of which is the fact that I've realized my type is pretty much unwanted here anymore.
There's just about nothing keeping me around the site anymore. The core group of people who are my very good friends and I - we've hopped to Tumblr, and we're pretty content hanging out there, and coming here to use Chat.
theOtaku maintains nothing for a user who does not draw, wallpaper, make graphics - whatever. I've been submitting my art here because I feel there are some folks subscribed to me who'd like to see, but I post my stuff everywhere.
So I dunno, guys. If you're on Tumblr, Twitter, or DA, and want to follow me on there, then drop a comment and I'll PM your my profiles. I use those places to hide away from others, basically.
Unless some other site suddenly gets a better chatting feature, I'm pretty sure I'll still be at least partially active on this site, and making it to ten years is plausible. But honestly? Unless there suddenly emerges a thing for me to "do", I don't really see myself participating in the community much anymore.
Would you look at that. Another semester has passed, and even though I had the credits for it sometime last semester, I am now officially a senor in college.
Changing the information that states such is so very weird.
It's...weird. Lots of things have happened and changed over the course of the past year, let alone the past three. Not just my art, but my life; my friends, my jobs (which are now non-existent), where I've lived, and the path I'm going on. Still, my room at home is the same (blue and messy) and reminds me I haven't moved very far beyond high school.
But getting out of sentimentality, wow, just....eesh. I'm graduating next year. What stands between me and that degree (ha it rhymes) are seven classes. Curriculum changes and what not whittled that number down from ten, and one of them was an art history, making it the BEST CHANGE EVER. And if it wasn't for my English minor it would be five but the whole reason I took summer classes was to avoid overloading myself so this wouldn't be a problem ANYWAY.
The one-on-one I had with my professor did give me some good news. For the first time since starting the program, I'm getting an A in the course (Illustration, that is), which I worked hard on getting. It's always something that eluded me - my work being not quite there, and it's frustrated me to no end. But I think I found a path to travel on within the past few months, so that's nice.
And seriousness aside, I gave her the most dumbfounded "Really?" when she told me, before throwing my hands in the air and then crashing down on the table.
I was also told that my style, which becoming graphic, is also versatile. Sweet relief. That doesn't mean I just want do that style alone, as I plan on working on digitally painting stuff this summer. But it's a nice thing to hear.
More than anything, I need to get a better idea of where I'm going. While I don't expect to land on an exact path (nor am I expected to), I need to research into people with styles similar to mine and see what they do. I kept being told "storyboarding, animation, comics", but I think my hesitation is that I really don't want to live in California and be in that world. But really, wherever I go is wherever things take me. Who knows, maybe I'll really be into animation in ten years.
