Hack to live, LIV 2 Slack

I'm planning on logging some of the cool Do It Yourself hacks that come from the inter-webs.

Sites that I may aggregate from: LifeHaker, Gizmodo, Engadget, ThisWeekInTech, WonderHowTo, PopSci, ColbertNation, TheDailyShow, and TheOtaku.

This world is currently under construction and will be for beyond the foreseeable future, just like live-action Cowboy Bebop movie.

My phone, like many Droid smartphones, has a constantly shrinking battery life because of the ever growing number of (cr)Apps that are downloaded and forgotten about weekly. If you just hit the Home Key to open up more apps, many apps will continue running in the background unless you exit them properly.

The worst of these apps and games will not only stay idling in your phone's CPU, but also use wireless resources like Wi~Fi and 3G. Even though data usage isn't so much a problem with those of us with unlimited plans, this may not always remain the case and it's still a big drain on the battery. Anyway here's how we're going to ID the apps and kill them.

To prompt a detailed history of battery usage open up your Droid's dialer and key in:

*#*#4636#*#*

I now have control of your phone, just kidding. If done right and your phone's similar to mine, this prompts a sensitive service menu for checking your phone's status and wireless settings.

The battery history menu will keep track of what apps are using what and how much CPU they've been hogging bandwidth from your social networking since when your phone booted up and when you last unplugged it from the charger.

There's more here then just a simple Wi~Fi toggle, so don't mess with the settings too much or risk having your phone bricked like a moderately used Dell laptop.

Use an app with a Task Killer tool like ASTRO or AndroZip to kill those pesky background apps as needed or uninstall the worst of the bunch if it continues to be an ongoing problem.
