News: SBY's Susumu Kodai Makes ANN's Top 8 Ace Pilot List

This weekend, ANN had posted its top list feature "Ace Pilot You'd Want In a Dogfight", and Space Battleship Yamato's Susumu Kodai (or in other words, Star Blazers' Derek Wildstar) got included in the list. However, the legendary sci-fi anime character himself was ranked at no. 5, and outranked by Neon Genesis Evangelion's Asuka Langley Soryu (ranked at no. 4), Super Dimension Fortress Macross' Hikaru Ichijo (ranked at no. 3), Porco Rosso's Marco Pagot (ranked at no. 2), and Mobile Suit Gundam's Char Aznable (ranked at no. 1). At least the oldschool anime heroes are getting the top glory this time.

News: Movie 3 of Yamato 2199 Announced

Today, ANN and Japanese language website Yamato Crew reveal that movie 3 of the 7-film theatrical series cut of Space Battleship Yamato 2199 is scheduled for release in Japan on Oct. 13, and will be titled "Space Battleship Yamato 2199: Endless Voyage". This film, to later be split into eps. 7-10 for the T.V. series of the anime, will focus on Yamato crew's contact with the Gamilus, but this time, the Yamato 2199 production team promise to tell the story in a way never told in the 1974 Space Battleship Yamato so as to further allow a good deal of distinction between the two anime versions of the classic sci-fi tale while the premise remains unchanged. So far, the movie 1 (known as either "Departure to a Faraway Destination" or "The Long Voyage") came out in April, and movie 2 (known as either "Fight to the Death in the Solar System" or "Desperate Battle in the Heliosphere") is to be released on June 30.
