Nippon Stray

Ultimate Loyalty: Japanese dog refuses to leave injured friend behind. Wow. Complete opposite from my previous post. I came to it by complete randomness. I was on this site that has random videos...funny, real life, porn, viral, you name it. I was looking at this video about a bully who gets dropped by the victim:Street Fighter Remix(freaking awesome), and stumbled on this one. Goddammit it almost made me cry. Got me choked up. :( I love the top rated comment: "animals>people". A lot of the times, shit, most of time it's true. If you don't know by now, I have a huge soft spot for dogs. :P

Click on the description. There's a translation.

Also, according to the website that posted this video, the dogs were picked up and cared for at a local shelter. I hope they're alright. And much support and well being to the earthquake/tsunami victims of Japan as well.

And on a "brighter" note, this is the one I was looking at first. Get 'em "Lil' Zangief"! >:o

Stray

I can't believe it was still alive in the morning. :(

About a week ago, at about two in the morning, the otherwise calm and peaceful night was broken by hellish sounds. Two dogs were killing another dog.

As the sounds drew me to the window, it began. Across the street, the dogs had just rounded the corner on my neighbors sidewalk. It was just vicious. Wishful thinking made me tell myself, "Stray skirmish. They'll have their little fight and move on. Disappear into the streets like they always do." But it just kept going. Something was different this time. The attack didn't stop. So it moved me from staying indifferent. I put on my sandals and rushed downstairs grabbing the wooden mop handle I keep by my dogs' food bowls. I yelled at them and banged the fence with the stick. The ones on the attack left around the corner they came from. The one who was attacked, didn't get up. It was just looking around as if to examine it's options. God it was heartbreaking.

My dogs were going crazy. Especially shadow. He was making such a ruckus with his barking. Tried to distract him from what just happened, then went back upstairs. They were at it again. This time I reacted without hesitation. Same course of action, same outcome. Since they where across the street and it was dark, I couldn't really make out what kind of dogs they were. When I went back upstairs, I keep watch through the window. I wanted to see if I could identify any of them. There are several stray packs in my neighborhood that have been causing trouble.

As I kept watch, it started to get up and stumble closer to my sidewalk. Which is the only one with grass. He lay there for a couple of minutes. Then I saw those two coming down the street. I raced down. Since it was closer, as soon as I got to the bottom of the stairs which lead right outside, I smelled the blood. I rushed the attacking dogs about as close as I felt I should get and scared them off. There were three of them this time. Apparently when I left the window to get outside, a third one joined the frenzy. But I got a good look at them this time. The bigger yellow one that was leading the attack was a pitbull I've never seen before. The beagle looking one was part of a pack I see all the time. The one being attacked was a brown mutt that was part of the same pack as the beagle. The one I saw when I got outside, was just a mutt I've never seen before. The poor little brown one ended up in the gutter. They dragged him away from the spot he picked on my sidewalk. They left him alone, so I went back upstairs and went to sleep.

In the morning when I drove my mom to work, it was still there. Alive and looking around. A few blocks away, I saw the pitbull writhing in the dirt with blood on it's chest. When I got back I got ready for an interview I had later that morning. On my way to the interview, I called my sister and told her to get me the number for animal control. She called me back with the number. I called and they sent someone out to my house to pick up the brown dog. The animal control guy that was sent over called me back to confirm how he looked. I also told him to pick up the pitbull and other strays he sees around. He said ok, but he really wanted me to be thorough about the pitbull. I can understand why. Those things are violent. All in all, he got the pit, and a few from the packs that I haven't seen in a while.

People should seriously consider the responsibilities that come with owning pets. How hard is it to determine if you can properly care for a pet or not? Apparently very hard for human garbage, cause there are a lot of strays and malnourished animals out there. How sad. Hopefully people start making better decisions. Love your pets.

Calm Like A Bomb

Operation: Corner Store

This was about two weeks before the 25th. It was 9 something pm and it was cold. I decided to go get some bread and mineral water from the corner store for the ham and cheese we had at home. It is only two blocks away, and you walk AGAINST traffic on the way there. At the street light which is exactly half-way there, this car is pulling up to the red as I walk by. As it comes to a stop, I notice the driver side reading light come on and the driver(female), reaches to the back seat. Her kids are back there, two of them. A baby and a toddler. She is attending to them for whatever reason.

Well, with that reading light illuminating her side of the car, I can't help but notice that she is very hot. What can I say? She was pretty, her jacket was unzipped, and she was very "fit". Nice. As I'm checking her out, I was completely unaware that there was someone in the passenger seat. And here we go.

Don't know if it was her boyfriend, her husband, or her brother, whatever the hell. What I do know for sure is that he was your cliche Mexican gangster. Shaved head, tatted up, and most importantly, dangerously reckless. And with the misguided attitude of a punk kid whist half of his body is sticking out the window, he yells at me, "Que onda homes! Que pinche rollo!". Which from pachuco slang, translates into, "Eh man, what the fuck you looking at!". I just kept calm, and kept walking. Made no eye contact.

As I went about my errand, I kept thinking to myself, "What the fuck dude? What complete disregard for himself and more importantly, his family". I mean, he was a small guy. A 'hardcore' cholo, but small nonetheless. His head didn't even reach the top of the headrest! Then to pick fights with strangers on the street with his girl and possibly his kids in the car? I'm 5'11, 230lbs, wearing a hoodie sweater with the hood on, cargo pants, you don't know what I might have on me! Oh, and did I mention I'm a complete stranger on the street at night, who's face you can't see?! How was he so sure this big dude with plenty of places to hide shit wasn't gonna call him on his front? So close to Christmas too. Wow, my mind was pretty hyped. But outside, I was still very calm.

But on the way back, I started getting paranoid. Especially because you walk WITH traffic. Having grown up in this barrio, I was ready for anything. Step up to me, and you ain't gonna have it easy. Paranoid thoughts. "Are they driving around the block?". "Are they coming up behind me?". Every time headlights were showing me my shadow, I thought to myself, "Is my shadow the last thing I'm gonna see?". Shit if something went down, and least step up to my face. Give me a freaking chance. Ridiculous shit like this happened all the time. Like the time some poor guy in the movie theater got shot in the back of his head cause he had the nerve to tell the wrong people to stop being so rowdy. It's stupid to think you're an exception from random, pointless crap like that. Like getting shot at for looking at the wrong guy's girlfriend. Yeah, that's never happened before. Paranoid thoughts. But outside, calm. Like a bomb.

Thankfully, nothing happened. Those two blocks were pretty long though. Moral of the story: Stay safe out there people. Keep clear of people and places you know you are supposed to. You never know what you might set off.

On a brighter note: To any of you who are reading this, Happy New Year! May it be filled with good health and success. I hope you achieve all your goals. Take care.
