I. Hiroyuki Takei

The creator of Shaman King;Hiroyuki Takei... Before we start our reviews on the characters and such (we would tackle them all ok? ^^ ) We must know the brilliant mind behind the wonderful anime Shaman King.

Born at May 15 1972; Yomogita Aomori perfecture. Takei made his first fanzine SD Hyakkaten and as he became successful, he later on became an assistant manga-ka to the Rurouni Kenshin creator; Nobuhiro Watsuki and Tamakichi Sakura (Sabaki no kaminan).

After years in work under official manga-ka's, Takei decided to take his own path on making his original manga. His career began by winning the Hop Step award (new manga artists) and the Osamu Tezuka Award (became one of the finalists bec. of his manga, Drag Doll Dan and actually became the winner bec. of his one-shot; Itako no Anna.). Later, he entered Shounen Jump with his action series; Butsu Zone(1997) and on the following year, he started another manga, which would be his longest running work; Shaman King.

H I M :

Takei was been born in the times when robots were a hit. A reason why he loves machines so much. (ex. his car ^^). Even in the terms of making a manga, American comics, robot animes, Hirohiko Araki's work and even Osamu Tezuka's works are among his influences.

  • Takei has this "disliking" of making a pure evil villain/s. Its not his style to create such a pure evil character, and this attitude is evident on how he designed Hao Asakura or Ren Tao(Shaman King) and even on his current work with Stan Lee (Spiderman, X-men etc.), perhaps the antagonist; Vice, is not that of an evil creature..
  • His best works on the shaman king volumes were volumes 19 and 20. He gave his whole heart in making this arc. And for those who doesnt know, this arc (mostly known as Osorezan revoir arc) is focused on Yoh and Anna's relationship.
  • Takei loves his characters, he may not be intentionally wanna make Shaman king (meaning he did shaman king accidental, not knowing that it'll be a hit), he may dislike a few parts about SK but one things for sure, He loves the characters from the bottom of his heart.
