Price of Freedom 2

~Part one was about Yuki and Haruko. This story focuses on Meeko their 3rd born, and how his life ended up.~

The first memory I have is my mother's scent. It was so comforting, almost intoxicating, and it always made me feel safe. My sibblings and I were not wanted by my mother's Mistress. I remember the smell of fear from my mother when Mistress would walk into the room. It was usually followed by very loud screaming. We didn't know what was going on. How could we? We were only a few months old. We had no clue what hell our lives were going to be.

My father's scent was even better than my mothers. He smelt of grass, and wind, sunshine, and dirt. Mother never got to go outside. Father was always outside. Two differnent worlds. Different even than ours. For my sibblings and me, our world consisited of a room. What came into the room was always exciting. Something new. I wanted to go into these other worlds.

I would always crawl to the door, while my sibblings cuddled around our mother. The door was the barrier. On the other side was something else...something different. I wanted to know what it was. I found out soon enough...and I have wished every night since then to go back to that tiny room.

I remember the scent of my father. His strong arm wraped around me. I could also smell his fear. It made me scared. I didn't think anything could scare my father. I remember screams, my fathers, my mothers, and the voices of many others. We were on the other side of the door, and then we were outside. My father fell. His scream the most terrible sound I ever thought I would hear. My sister Kiyoko started to cry. I reached over and took her hand.

A man came over to us. He reached down to take us from our father. Kiyoko screamed, and I bit his hand. I felt a pain as he smacked my head, and then there was darkness. When I woke up my brother Haruko was trying to comfort our sisters. We were in a box on the street. Our parents were gone. We never saw them again.

Many humans came by the box. They would stare at us, and they would touch us, and they would leave. This box was another prison. I wanted out. "Why are we still here? I don't like this place." Kiyoko hissed at me. "You would rather us go out there?! We don't know what to do. Mommy and Daddy are not here. This box is safe." Haruko was petting Peeko's head. "He's right Kiyo....we have to find food soon. We can't sit here forever. No one is coming for us, and no humans have taken us. If we stay we die." I stood up and looked over the edge of the box. "If we leave we might die too though...do you think that is what happened to Mom and Dad?" Kiyoko hit me. "Don't say such stupid things!!!" I rubbed my head and said nothing. Eventually it was decided that we must leave the box in order to keep living.

*note their 'box' is more like a play pen for toddlers
