Welcome to The wonderful world of Nichijou! This is an amazing show and there is not nearly enough buzz about it.

Sakamoto Welcomes you~

Note: Any new comers to the show, I encourage you to watch the second episode. The first, for those who know little about Japanese culture, is very hard to understand humor-wise, and thus can be a turn off. The second episode is a much better representation of the show.

What is Nichijou??

Nichijou is the ultimate show about nothing and everything! It follows the nichijou (Ordinary Life) of it's six main characters and also the lives of tons of others. Think of it as a comic strip in the funnies. It's plots are rarely greatly connected but are always funny and extremely interesting.
What makes it a great show is its presentation. The simple art style allows the creators to explore a huge range of effects within the show. As I stated before, it is a show about nothing and everything. Each episode is broken into numerous plots each depicting a different situation. Many of these situations are very simple but are made hilarious because of either the over dramaticism of its characters or the sheer absurdity of the event. Whether it involves Nano, an android created by the eight year-old super genius known only as The Professor, or Yuko and her friends Mio and Mia Chan in some strange situation.
I love how simple everything can be yet still be so engaging and fun. One very famous situation being the brawl between the principle and the mysterious deer that appeared in the court yard. This of course was all witnessed by Yuko, but she reluctantly told no one of the incident. Another situation being when Nano and the Professor take in a stray cat. They resort to calling him Sakamoto because that was what was written on the box they found him in. In a matter of minutes, The Professor creates a handkerchief that allows Sakamoto to speak. This sarcastic cat then asserts his dominance over the two of them, stating that in cat years he is over twenty and is therefore to be there caretaker because they have no known parents.
There is so much more I could say about this show, but it is easier for you to just go out and watch it for yourself. :D

Never To Return

Animator Suzuki Shunji (the general animation director of "Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone") posted on his twitter that the sales of Kadokawa's anime titles in this spring and summer were terrible. He attended a private meeting of people in the anime industry and heard that Nichijou was far from break-even point as well as R-15 and Itsuka Tenma no Kuro Usagi. He said the reputation of Kyoto Animation has been completely lost.

Well, that's the end of Nichijou

The finale of Nichijou features a plan to surprise Nano for her birthday. While it isn't really Nano's birthday, Mio and Mai go along with Yuko's idea because it will still be a nice surprise for Nano.
Professor tells Nano that morning that she has mad a small version of her screw that she will replace the normal one with. Nano is over joyed until Sakamoto steps on it crushing it. Professor says that she'll have a new one made in no time, and puts Nano's original screw back on.
At the end of the day all of the girls meet at Nano's house. Professor takes off Nano's screw and hands it to her. As Nano goes to store it somewhere, she realizes that having the screw the entire time HAS NOT prevented her from making friends as she was so worried about. Yuko treated her as a normal girl from the very beginning and even at the sight of Nano with one of her hands detached, Yuko never treated her badly. Nano has made some amazing friends despite the presence of the screw, and she may have not made them had the screw not been present.
When the girls arrived yelling "Happy Birthday", Nano was so surprised but ecstatic. Today actually WAS her birthday and her friends had remembered. Nano put the original screw back on. When Professor came to replace it with the small screw, Nano began to tell her that she wished to keep it on, but Professor removed it, put in the small screw, and then replaced the original screw on top of it. Professor said that the small screw would allow the entire piece to spin when Nano was really happy, and it spun for the remainder of the episode.
This was a very heart warming episode and a wonderful conclusion. Although it very much pains me that this is the end of the show.
