Knowledge Beforehand?
A couple of recommendations, lots of review, a ton of pictures, and the fact that it swept almost every entry it went in for the AniMercury 2013 awards.
Plusses?
IT'S ALMOST LIKE A DANG MOVIE, EXCEPT... IT'S AN ANIME
The opening gave me chills. GAVE ME CHILLS. Very few openings can do that.
Animation is absolutely beautiful. It's one of the great things that pull you into it.
Soundtrack... no words. No freakin' words.
The characters feel very... real. Like they're real people. It adds exceptionally to the emotion and the entire feel of it.
Minuses?
I didn't like that they added the lines when a character got a dark face in the very beginning. They could have done fine without that.
Uhm...not for the super-duper-sensitive, but I bet most people can handle it.

Freakin' amazing. I'm excited to continue watching now that I'm getting around to watching the dang thing
