Well, I'm back in Vancouver tired, a little poorer, and with a lot of video I need to sift through.
So in the meantime, before I can compile any reports or any other clips of things about this year's Sakura-Con in Seattle, Washington, I'll post the video report from theOtaku.com's meet-up (one or two language warnings if you worry about that stuff):
It was a smaller con meet than previous years, but it was still a great one. For one, we actually got a chance to talk with each other. True story, our meets often tend to be rather abrupt. We got to talk about things we had seen, people we had seen, gigantic donuts you can find in the city... it was enjoyable.
This year's give-outs included Vancouver 2010 Olympics mascots and a grand prize of the full box set of Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad (the greatest series you've never seen). Being that there were only four mostly-local theOtaku members at the meet and the rest were either from Vancouver (or were Batou), I decided the give-outs would go to the ones I don't get to see quite as often.
As such, the Americans got all the prizes... but oh how they had to suffer for them...
After ten rounds of "Quizzing The Amercs with Canadian Trivia" followed by a couple more tie-breakers, chibimaster was awarded the glorious box set that is Beck. thinkanti went home with a brand new plushie of Miga the Sea bear; serenitytsu left with a new Quatchi the Sasquatch; red:leaf was in turn awarded Sumi the Animal Spirit. Sure, the theory behind the mascots might be kinda lame, but at least they're a little cute.
Besides, when else will people get that kind of free swag from people at this site?
I've plenty more to sort through. For now, here are a few pictures until I can find more:
(theOtaku.com members serenitytsu, red:leaf, thinkanti, and chibimaster with their 2010 Olympic Mascot prizes)
(Batou of Anime Pulse getting sniped before he knew I had the camera out)
(Anomaly sitting in front of several of the OSCGumi Cosplay members)
Thanks once again to everyone who came by! Thanks Anomaly, chibimaster, red:leaf, serenitytsu, thinkanti, amenonine and everyone from the OSCGumi group, and Batou for coming out to the meet-up! And of course, shout-outs to TseUq and Monkey Orange who were at the con but were unable to quite make it to the meet. It was great to see you all again!
More posts to follow, I'm sure...
