Mao no Tamashii Chapter 2

Here's the 2nd chapter for Mao no Tamashii!

Chapter 2
Physical Exams?! Things Aren’t Going to End Well

Things haven’t really happened, life’s still the same, well, aside from Night testing human things on me, I’m just glad that my hair’s still attached to my scalp after he somehow turned my sister’s hair dryer into a flame-thrower. Or when he saw me cooking (nothing extravagant, just rice), he looked at the pots and pans and wondered what they were for, suffice to say, I nearly got whacked over with the frying pan, and stabbed by four different kitchen knives (Why did my mother have to have a silverware fetish? That, and how is this guy capable of turning harmless objects into murderous weapons).
“Hey, Nurosawa!” Taiga called out to me, this is Taiga Mikane; a spiky haired brunette with gold colored eyes , he’s basically your average meathead that’s all brawn and no brain, I have no idea why, but this guy seems to have a habit of bothering me; I suppose it must’ve started after I tutored him last summer. He went on about how he needed to pay me back by being my friend.
“What do you want, Mikane?” I said in an annoyed tone, in my position, I just wanted a peaceful day at school and read a book or something, and be thankful I was alive.
“Come on dude, no need to bite my head off.” He said raising his hands to defend himself, “I only came to talk a bit.”
“Well, what is then?”
“We’re going to have our yearly physical exam on Monday, I can’t wait! Maybe I’ll get to see a few ladies this year.” When he said that, the first thing that popped into my head was “pervert”, but I suppose I’ll be nice today. “I just hope Grei doesn’t hog all the girls to himself.”
And right on cue, Night walked up to us, he probably just left his singing class, “What does Taiga mean about me hogging girls?”
Taiga wrapped his arm around Night’s neck and poked his cheek with his other hand, “Don’t play dumb man, you already know about the physical exams, and I bet those girls are just begging to show their boobs to you, huh?”
Again, the word pervert popped into my head, but I kept it in my head, hopefully Night would do the same-, “Pervert. You shouldn’t lump in me that group with you.” Night said. That’s right, I forgot that Night doesn’t lie and is blunt about everything. “What are physical exams?”
Taiga made a shocked expression at Night, “You’re kidding, aren’t you Grei?” Night just shook his head, “Man, you missed out on a lot, where did you live? In another world?”
“Well-”
“Night’s past is none of your concern, Mikane.” I interrupted, I couldn’t have Night telling anyone he was the demon king, but considering how Night didn’t hesitate on telling him must’ve meant he trusted Mikane, whatever I’ll think about it later.
“Oh, come on, we’re friends, aren’t we?”
I just rose from my seat and gathered my belongings as the last bell of the day rang, “We’re leaving, Night.”

The walk home was relatively silent, while I went through the front door, Night flew over to my room’s veranda and waited for me to let him in. After I did so, he gave me a questioning look, I asked, “What are you making that look for?”
“Why did you want to leave when he asked if we were friends? Isn’t Taiga your friend?”
“He’s not my friend, what made you think that?”
“He talks to you, and is nice to you-”
“That doesn’t always mean that people are friends. He just happens to bother me for no apparent reason, I don’t really consider him a friend.”
Night just tilted his head to the side, “I don’t understand, he considers you his friend, but you don’t consider him as your friend.”
“I’ll explain that some other time.”
At that change of topic, Night perked up a bit, “What’s a physical exam? Taiga never told me anything.”
“It’s like a checkup, people take your height, weight, and likewise. The reason Mikane’s looking forward to it is for the high school class are taking chest and muscle measurements as well.”
“Like this?” Night asked, and I turned around from my desk to see that he took off his shirt and jacket. I noticed faint gray outlines on his upper body, I took off my glasses to see completely strange bluish black markings. They seemed like carving, two looked like they began from his back that wrapped in front of his shoulders to his chest; it seemed intimidating. Just below that one was another pair that looked similar, but smaller and less bold. And the last one appeared to look like a line that wrapped his abdomen a few times and ended back at his back.
“What are those?” Night looked confused until he noticed I was looking at the tattoo like markings.
“They’re my wings and tail!”
“How is that possible?”
“I can’t have my wings out all the time, they’re too big and might hit stuff, and I can’t hide my tail in my shirt, it feels weird.” Night stated, “So when my wings and tail aren’t showing, they’re my birthmarks.”
He showed me by bringing out his wings and tail, just as he had said, as his wings and tail appeared the markings faded. That meant the bolder markings that wrapped around his shoulders were his wings, and the one that wrapped around his abdomen was his tail, but what about the one in the middle? They must be wings, but knowing Night, it could be something else.
Night seemed to be playing with his tail, “Night.” I called and he had his attention towards me. “What about those? Those markings in the middle?”
“They are my other pair of wings, I don’t really need them, but I can only use them in serious emergencies.” Night said as his wings and tail become markings again, he looked around for his shirt and jacket that he had forgotten where he had placed.
“Oh, that’s right!” I exclaimed all of a sudden, making Night jump, “You never told me what type of demon you are, Night. I don’t care what kind you are, I just want to know.”
Night smiled as found his shirt, and glanced over to me, “Well, I’m half devil. The other half’s not human or demon either, I’m keeping it a secret until you find out yourself.” He went out to the porch after he had his shirt back on, “I’ll see you later Kain, I’m going to go look for some fun. Oh, and don’t take friendship for granted.” And with that he flew off, honestly I have no idea what he does or he goes off to on his own, thank god he hasn’t caused any damage. Come to think of it, aside from that suit he first showed up in, and male and female uniforms, he doesn’t have much else that I know of, I guess I’ll take him to the mall or something next time.
Meanwhile with Night, he was deep in thought as he flew above town, Why does Kain not care whether or not he has friends, and Taiga’s a really nice guy. I got it! I have a great plan that can get them to be friends, and Sparky’s going to be here, too! I can’t wait! Night’s thoughts were interrupted as crashed into what seemed like an invisible barrier, it burned a little; meaning a church, Night got upset as his demon wings instinctively retracted, and yelled, “This is why I hate churches! They hurt! I’m 300 feet in the air, I can use my other wings, but I’ll be tired and hungry, if Kain sees, he’ll run away. This is going to hurt a little.”
Night shut his eyes as he plummeted down, unfortunately for Taiga, he happened to be standing at the exact spot Night was going to land. Taiga just exited the church and started to walk home, something fell on him and knocked him to the ground. “Ouch, what hit me?” He looked over to see Night on top of him and looked unconscious. “Grei! You okay, dude? You think you can get up?”
Night moved slightly when he heard his name, got up and shook his head, “It didn’t hurt as much as I thought. Huh? What am I sitting on?” He looked down to see Taiga, “Oh, hello Taiga, why are you lying on the ground under me?”
“I should be the asking you that! No, I mean I should be asking why you’re on top of me?! No, I mean, Why did you fall from the sky-no I mean, arrgg!! I’m getting myself confused!!” He stopped his rant when he felt Night trembling, “Hey, you okay?”
Night couldn’t contain himself and began to smile and laugh, and Taiga started to blush, That’s kinda cute, I’ve never seen him smile or heard him laugh before, he’s pretty cute for a guy-What am I thinking?! He’s a guy! Get out, weird thoughts! Come on! Girls, boobs, their butts, that’s what I like! “You’re really funny, Taiga!”
Cut it out! Taiga thought as he was trying to fight his blush, and said, “Ca-can you get off?” Night crawled off of Taiga, as he stood, Taiga was confused when Night was still sitting on the ground, “What’s wrong? Why aren’t you standing, Grei?”
He looked up at Taiga, and raised his hand that was bleeding, “It seems like I hurt my arm and leg. It hurts to stand up.” He said as he gave a reassuring smile to Taiga, “I’m okay though, you can go home, Taiga. I’ll be fine by myself.”
Taiga was shocked, Grei fell from the sky and got only an injured hand and leg, the guy can’t walk-but he’s wants me to leave like it’s nothing?! No way! Taiga just kneeled to Night, “Take off your jacket so I can see your wound.”
Night did as he was told and took off his school jacket, Night’s right arm was bleeding in three different places, one in between his shoulder and elbow; but it was pretty small, so it was fine, the other two on his arm, on the other hand, were long gashes. Upon seeing the wounds, Taiga took off his shirt and began ripping into strips, Night was confused, “Why are you doing this, Taiga? I said I’m fine, you don’t have to worry about me.”
“Like hell I don’t have to! You’re fine?! You can barely walk! There’s no way I’d leave you here like that by yourself! You are my friend, and you’re hurt, so be quiet and let me help you.” Taiga yelled, he didn’t care if Night refused his help, he was going to aid his injuries. After Taiga dressed Night’s wounds, he presumed to carry Night in bridal style.
Night was confused as to why Taiga decided to carry him in this fashion, “Taiga, why are you carrying me like this? I could’ve just climbed on your back.”
“Your leg hurts, right? Your arm’s hurt too, you’d just fall off my back when I start walking, anyway.”
Night was still confused, “But won’t you get embarrassed? Guys aren’t supposed to carry another guy.”
Taiga just grinned and chuckled, “Yeah, you got a point, but you kinda look like a girl, besides, you’re pretty light for a guy.”
“Really?”
Moments later, Taiga carried Night to his home, Taiga’s house was similar to an apartment complex, the inside smelled of cigarette and liquor, after he cleaned the area, he placed Night on the sofa, and went to the kitchen, “Sorry about the place, Mom works all night and comes home drunk sometimes, and Dad has a habit of smoking in the house after work. They’re both on a business trip for a few weeks, and I never really had time to clean the place up.” Taiga looked into the cabinets and looked for something to eat, “You hungry, Grei? I forgot to go shopping so there’s not much. If you want, you can stay over here if you want.”
Night just looked at him at after viewing everything in Taiga’s house, and smiled like a child, “Okay! I’ve never been to anyone’s house except for Kain before!”
Taiga was a bit shocked by the outburst of the school’s most-talented and quietest guy, and laughed, making Night confused, “You’re a weird guy, Grei. At school, you normally won’t talk ‘til Nurosawa’s around, and here you are-smiling and laughing. You should do that more often.”
Night was still confused, but said, “Kain says even when I don’t talk, I still attract attention.”
“You really like being around Nurosawa, huh? How long have you known the guy?”
“Kain is amazing! He’s really smart and good with machines. He’s really nice, even though he has a weird way of showing it. I’ve known him for a long time. Kain is usually by himself when I’m not around though. I wonder why?”
Taiga couldn’t help but to burst out laughing, “You know, for a smart guy, you’re pretty dumb.”
Night’s eyes widened a bit and a smiled and laughed as well, “That’s weird, I say the same thing to Kain.”
“Hey, Grei.” Taiga called.
“What is it, Taiga?”
“You rarely ever talk at all, but when you do, it’s about school stuff or Nurosawa. Why don’t you talk about yourself, Grei? Tell me a bit about yourself, like what’s your family like?”
Night looked down, trying not to show Taiga his grimaced expression, “My…my family is part of my past. I don’t like my past, I want to forget it. Big Brother, Kei, Ryuuji, Sparky, and Aunt Sear, I won’t ever forget them, but…but anyway, it’s okay. The past is the past, and this is the present.” He said as he looked back up with the same bright smile he seemed to always have for Kain.
Night didn’t notice Taiga move until he felt Taiga embrace him, “Taiga?”
Even though his name was called, Taiga didn’t release from his embrace, “Grei, you don’t have bottle your emotions all the time, let them out once in a while.”
Emotions? Do I really I have those things? Night thought, while Taiga let go of Night and proceeded to go to sleep, until Night unconsciously grabbed Taiga’s shirt. Night immediately let go of his shirt when Taiga stopped walking and turned around, he looked down so to not make eye contact, “Um, is it okay if I sleep with you, Taiga? It’s okay if you say no.”
Taiga just blushed, How am I supposed to say no to such a cute face? Is he really a guy?! Oh forget it, I’ll think about it later or something! “Oh sure, it’s no big deal.” Taiga replied as he lifted Night and carried him over to his room on to his bed, “Sorry, we don’t have any spare beds, we never have guests.”
Morning quickly came, Taiga woke up in bed completely refreshed and thought, Wow, I haven’t slept good in a real long time. I wonder if it’s something I did yesterday? The moment he stretched, he felt something wrapped around him under the covers. “What the-?!” Taiga yelled, he was about to freak out when he remember the events from the night before, as he pulled the covers to see Night hugging Taiga’s stomach with his head on his chest.
“He must’ve done it in his sleep.” Taiga whispered to himself, He kinda looks like an angel when he’s sleeping-wait what am I thinking?! He was about to continue his self-rant, until he heard Night mutter something in his sleep. Who knew, Grei talks in his sleep.
Taiga couldn’t help himself, and focused on listening to what Night said next, “mmnnn…..Big Brother….”
The guy must be dreaming of his family. He thought and remembered what Night had said the night before, “My…my family is part of my past. I don’t like my past, I want to forget it…” Something must’ve happened in his childhood to say that. I’d do anything to get my family to be the way we used to be. His thought was sidetracked when he felt Night stir slightly.
Night slowly rose and rubbed his eye with one hand and mumbled, “Mnn…Oh, it’s morning.” When he felt that his other hand was on Taiga’s chest and not on the bed, he blushed and a small somewhat squeaky sound as he fell on the bed with a thud.
Taiga could not help but burst out laughing. Here he was, GreiNight Vermillion, one of the coolest guys in Clear Academy, actually made a squeaky sound and fell off Taiga’s own bed, (He completely ignored the “his own bed” part. Obviously.) He went over to the edge of the bed where Night fell, “You okay, dude? You sounded like you hit the floor pretty har- Aaarrggh!” He yelled as his and Night’s forehead ran into each other.
How? Well, Night wasn’t really looking to see if Taiga was above him or not, so as he started to get up, Taiga-at the exact same time- lowered his head without noticing Night’s movements, and the collision was the result. (What Taiga just found out here was: Night has a very hard head.)
Taiga was trying not to fall off the after that as he was flailing, trying to keep himself on the bed by grabbing the bedspread with his feet while holding his aching head. Night was confused when he noticed this, but somehow realized what Taiga was trying to do and lifted his index finger to push Taiga’s head back a bit. Thanks to that action, Taiga was able to stay on the bed, “Thanks, Grei. I thought I was gonna fall and crush you or something.”
As Night moved back a little and tilted his head a bit, “You’re heavy? I only had to push you with a finger.” That kind of made Taiga in between of shock and shame, before he could sulk though, Night asked, “Taiga, does your back hurt? You say I’m light and all, but I fell from 300 feet in the air, to say the least your back would’ve been shattered.”
When Taiga heard that, his eyes widened, “What?! 300 feet?! And you only got a broken arm and leg?! Forget about me, I’m fine, but how in the world did you fall from 300 feet in the air?”
Before he could answer, Night thought for a bit, What can I tell him? If I tell him the whole truth, he’ll freak out. Oh well, I’ll just say the last part of what happened. “I was flying, crashed into something, and fell and somehow landed on you.”
Taiga gave him a questioning look, “You flew and hit something, then you landed on me while I was leaving the church… What are you, some kind of angel or a lunatic? There aren’t even wings on you.”
That made Night’s eyes narrow, but barely noticeable to Taiga, Really now? Well I’ll just have to add that to the surprise. But for now though, I think a little payback is in order for calling me crazy. As Taiga got from the bed and headed towards the door, Night let out his tail and slowly let it worm and wrap around Taiga’s leg, unknown to Night; Taiga was able to see it as a shadow. Before Taiga knew it, Night’s tail gently pulled his leg back, making Taiga’s head hit the door.
“Graaahh!!” Taiga yelled when he made impact with the door. He felt something loosely wrapped on his and took a glance again, the moment he did; Night noticed and immediately retracted his tail and laughed. Taiga turned around, thinking Night was laughing about that collision, “That’s not funny, Grei.”
Night responded in between laughs, “You tripped on your own foot and hit your head on the door. How can I not laugh. You’re so clumsy!”
“You’re enjoying this, aren’t you?”
“Yes I am.”
Taiga just sighed, he’d just lose if he went into a verbal argument with Night. “Well, how about breakfast-oh wait, I’m out of food! Oh well, why don’t we go out to eat.”
When he looked and didn’t see Night standing, he remembered, I almost forgot. He can’t stand with his leg in that condition, it’s probably broken. Alright, first things first, I’m taking Grei to a clinic. Taiga went over to his closet and grabbed a random t-shirt, and threw it at Night who was trying to climb back onto the bed; hitting Night in the face. “Here, we should go to a clinic to get that arm and leg checked out. You can’t go anywhere with that blood-covered shirt.”
Night just blinked before he started to unbutton his shirt, he didn’t care that Taiga was right there, they were both men after all, so there was nothing wrong. Taiga, on the other hand, was frozen. He couldn’t move, he was planning on going outside then remembered to ask Night what he wanted to eat, but when he saw Night taking off his shirt, his body stiffened. He could actually feel his face heat and body get warmer, when Night noticed, he stopped at the last button, looking up at Taiga with a confused face. Taiga immediately snapped out of his daze and rapidly turned around heading for the door, “Ah-ah, I-I-I’ll g-go wait ou-outside.”
The door closed with a slam. Night was confused, but smiled as he put on the shirt Taiga lent him, This is really interesting. Taiga and Kain are so much alike it’s almost too bad they didn’t become friends on their own. I have to wonder though, why is Taiga so worried about my injuries? I could make them disappear if I want to, oh well, I’ll play along. This will make things so much better…Taiga’s clothes are way too big.
Night stood and walked over to the door like he never received a scratch, holding his school shirt in one hand. As he opened the door, it seemed like time continued to move and he appeared wounded again, and limped until he lightly bumped into Taiga, he looked up and smiled, “There you are, Taiga. Thanks for letting me borrow your shirt, but it’s a little big.” He said as he showed Taiga by aligning the neck hole, only for it to slide to his left shoulder, Taiga instantly blushed and stopped Night when he tried to fix his shirt again.
“It’s alright. It doesn’t look like it’s getting in the way, anyway, you’re arm and leg seems fine for now, if you want, we can get something to eat real quick.”
“It’s okay, we can go to that clinic you were talking about earlier. I think it’s a good idea to go.” Taiga lent Night his arm and they headed for the clinic.

Shortly after, the two of them came back out of clinic with a cast on Night’s arm, “You’re lucky that all you got was a broken arm and a sprained leg, Grei. The Doc said to stay off that leg though.”
Night limped along staring at his cast, “I’ll be fine, this isn’t a really a bother.”
“I’ll drop you off somewhere if you want. How about home?”
Night looked up at Taiga, “Can you take me to Kain’s house? I know the way.”
When they reached to the front door of Kain’s house, Taiga rang the doorbell, and heard Nurosawa’s voice.

I heard the bell ringing multiple times, really Night and everyone else isn’t here and I’m stuck answering the door, better not be Sis forgetting the house key again, “I get it, I get it! I’m coming! Just wait a second!!”
The minute opened the door and I saw Mikane, he had a shocked expression on his face, Guess it’s because I look different from school. My hair is naturally shaggy if I don’t fix it and I don’t wear my glasses at home. I was shocked as well, why and how did this guy know where I live? I snapped out of it and slammed the door on him. I was about to just walk up to my room until I noticed something, Wait. There was an arm around Mikane’s shoulder, come to think of it, I never told anyone about my home except Night. Which reminds me, he usually flies over to my veranda to greet me, but didn’t this morning. Did something happen to Night?! I ran back over to door and flung it open.
I could feel the door hit something, and Mikane was gone, sure enough though, Night was standing on one leg and trying to stop himself from laughing, “Night? What happened to Mikane?”
Night continued to prevent himself from laughing as he pointed down. I looked down to notice a knocked over Mikane clutching his nose, I heard him mutter, “What is with my luck today? First, I get a head-first collision with a very hard headed Grei, trip on nothing and bang my head on the door, and after going to the clinic for Grei; now I’ll have to go back with a broken nose! Oh god, I’m getting dizzy…” And passed out.
Night calmed down a bit, and knelt down to poke Mikane a few times, “I think he has a concussion. And a broken nose too. Oh well, he did get a lot of hits to the head.”
I just took another glance and sighed, “What a pain. Night, help me bring him in.” I grabbed him by the arm while Night grabbed the other and went inside.
After we put Mikane on the couch and Night fix his broken nose, I noticed that Night was wearing a cast on his arm and had dried blood on the leg of his pants. I unconsciously grabbed Night by the arm and yelled, “What the hell happened, you weren’t like that yesterday?!”
Night just looked confused and realized what I said and smiled, which baffled me, “Oh, this? It’s really nothing. After I left yesterday, I went for a little flight around the city, then I crashed into a church barrier. After I hit it, my wings retracted and I fell, but before I did, I landed on Taiga. He noticed I broke my arm and leg, so he carried me and bandaged my leg on his own. I couldn’t fix them when he’s around, so I let it stay like that for a little while.”
He tugged at his really large shirt angrily, “And Taiga let me borrow his shirt after I slept in his bed, but it’s too big! I try to fix it, but every time I do, it doesn’t work!”
I almost turned red when he mentioned that he slept with Mikane, but when Night tried to fix his shirt, it went lower and showed his chest and nipple. My face turned the darkest shade of red possible and blood came out of my nose, Wh-why is my nose bleeding and my face so hot? Night’s a guy, so why am I reacting like that? I did yesterday as well, what’s wrong with me? No, no, just ignore it! I just turned to get a tissue and cleared my throat, “Well, I was planning on taking you to by some clothes today, but I guess we’ll do that some other time.”
Night just smiled and nodded, while he thought, New clothes, huh? I wonder what sort of things humans wear?
An hour or so later, Mikane woke up with a groan, “My head… I was going to Nurosawa’s house to drop off Grei, he shut the door on us, then my nose started hurting, huh? Now that I think about it, why doesn’t my nose hurt?”
“It’s because Night fixed your nose. He did a good job, he didn’t have to use a bandage, right Night?” I said eating lunch on the coffee table while Night sat on the other side smiling.
“That’s right! Even with the broken nose and concussion you got when Kain hit you with his door, it was easy to fix.”
“Night!” I yelled; sure I hit the guy with my door, gave him a broken nose and concussion, but there’s no way I’d admit that!
Night whimpered and used his sad puppy look, “I’m sorry Kain. I just thought that after Taiga was nice enough to help me, that it was a little mean for you to beat his face in with a door. The nice thing to do would be to apologize.”
I couldn’t help but blush and felt a twinge of guilt, and out of the corner of my eye I saw Mikane blushing as well. Night seems to always make me feel like the bad guy! How does he do that?! Is that a demon trait or something? Well, I guess I should say sorry. I turned to Mikane, with my hair covering my face, “Sorry Mikane.”
Mikane snapped out his blush and laughed, “No big deal, Nurosawa.” And his stomach grumbled. He put his hand on his stomach as he awkwardly laughed and blushed, “I forgot I didn’t eat breakfast.”
Night stood up and limped to the kitchen, “I’ll make something in return for your help.”
I knew things would not end well, I almost ended up being the main course the last time he tried to cook, who knows what would happen this time? I stood up quickly, “W-wait, you’re injured, it’s best for you not move around.”
Night just smiled, “Don’t worry, it’ll only take a few minutes.”
I had no idea what happened in that kitchen, all I heard was very loud hacking of meat, intense heat, and…mooing and pig squealing? After that I hear Night calling for me, "Um… Kain? Can you help?”
I rushed over to the kitchen expecting animal blood covering the walls, but all there was just a cart with a few trays with silver domes covering whatever Night made. Wait a minute, I don’t have this kind of stuff, the silverware yes, but the cart? I really have to remember to ask how he does these things. “You want help to bring that in right?” Night nodded, “And I ask why?”
“I can always bring out my tail and wings, and you’d have to explain everything to him while I watch.”
I just grab the handle of cart and start wheeling the surprising heavy cart, “Demon.”
Night just smiled, “Thank you.”
After I finally dragged that heavy thing into the living room, the three of us put the trays on the table, Mikane was practically drooling, “Whatever you have under there smells delicious, Grei.”
I had no idea what he meant, I couldn’t smell a thing. Neither Taiga or I did anything, probably waiting for the other to make the first move. Night got impatient but kept an upbeat tone, “Well, what are you two waiting for? Dig in!” He pulled the domes off one by one.
They looked extravagant, the aroma overwhelmed me, I could actually feel myself drool. Night spoke, “I think those are called t- bone steak, pork cutlets, ribs with homemade barbeque sauce, and a meat pot.”
“They look better than smell, let’s eat!” Mikane yelled and scarfed himself, “Mnn! Re---ious!” He yelled with his mouth full. I’m guessing he said delicious?
I tried a piece for myself, it felt like my mouth exploded with flavor! “Wow! It’s really good, Night!” He smiled in response.
The food was gone in minutes, except for some that I thought I might as well leave for dinner, Mikane headed for the door, “Well, my job here’s done. See you Monday Grei, and thanks for the great lunch!” Night happily waved him goodbye.

“Well, that was fun, right Kain? You had a friend over!” Night cheered happily as we went upstairs to my room.
“I told you, Mikane isn’t my friend.” I really don’t understand why he keeps trying to make new friends for me, I went over to my computer and turned it on. I went on the usual websites; demon research and astronomy. I came across the lunar forecast, it said that there’s going to be a Blue Moon soon.
“What are you looking at on that machine, Kain?” Night asked peering over my shoulder.
I moved to the side a bit to show him the picture of the blue moon, “There’s going to be a Blue Moon soon.”
“What’s a Blue Moon?”
“A Blue Moon is when there are two New Moons in one month. It rarely happens so I really want to see it.”
Night thought for a moment until he said, “We have something like that in the Demon World too. We call it a Bloody Moon, because it shines a deep dark red in the sky. It only happens once every 30 years though, we have a traditional festival whenever there is one.”
Bloody Moon huh? Can’t really expect anything less in the Demon world I suppose. “Moon?” I heard Night say that cut me from my thoughts.
“What?”
“I said, when is the next Blue Moon?”
I looked over to the screen for a quick glance and turned back to Night, “It says on Monday, I’d like to see it, but there isn’t a good view from here.”
“Really?”
The weekend came and passed quickly and became Monday. It was the day of our Physical exam, Mikane was with Night and I, to help Night move around with his “broken leg”; simple enough to say that when the girls saw this, they went into a fury. They actually almost attacked him, if it weren’t for Night of course.
Mikane and I have already gotten our physicals, leaving Night the only one to have not been checked yet, he was leaning against a tree, napping. Why? Well, I’ll explain.
“Taiga, can you put me down over by that tree? I think I’m going to sleep for a bit.” Night said limping along with his arm wrapped around Mikane’s shoulder.
“We still have our physicals to do, Night.” I said.
“Don’t worry, you two said that they do by name order right? It’ll be a while before my turn. You can wake me up when your turns are done.”
Mikane agreed and walked over to a tree with a shade, “Here, we’ll come back later. Enjoy your nap, Grei.” We left while Night waved and went to sleep.
“There he is. Grei-” Mikane said until he froze. I looked to see why he stopped, a dog the size of a car took Night and ran off towards the school buildings. That dog could not have been normal, it was greenish and had electricity running out of its paws.
“What the?” I said before Mikane dashed in the direction the dog ran off. I ran after him as well, “Mikane, what are you doing?!”
“What do you think? I’m going after that over-sized mutt and getting Grei back!”
What he said had me confused, Night is the Demon King, that dog could be a demon too, he could take care of himself. “He’ll be fine.”
“Like Hell he’ll be fine! He’s injured and that stupid dog took him while he was asleep, that thing might eat Grei! What kind of friend are you?!”
What he said had me running past him, He’s right. Demon King or not, Night’s still my friend. “I hate to admit it, but you’re right. Now, hurry up.”
Mikane smiled before he yelled, “Wait for me!”
We ran through the chemistry lab, everything in the room was knocked over and destroyed. After we past that, all we had to do was follow the carnage in the school before we reached The Eastern Sun Building; no one really knew why it has that name, but it always gave off a special feeling. After climbing ten flights of stairs, Mikane and I reached the roof, seeing that dog with Night, he was still asleep, but the sleeves and legs of his shirt and pants were ripped. We were both enraged, and before I could notice, Mikane punched to dog. “Mikane, you idiot! What are you doing?!”
“What does it look like?! Just go get Grei while I distract it!” That dog let out a blast of electricity that Mikane narrowly escaped. I looked between him and Night and sighed, I must be going insane!
Mikane tripped on a pipe and couldn’t get away when it pounced for an attack. Mikane turned, wondering why it didn’t hit him yet. I was standing in front of him, panting and holding the pipe he’d tripped on, “What did you do, Nurosawa?!”
“Hell if I know.” I replied.
“Why aren’t you with Grei? I told you I’d distract it!”
“Shut up. I don’t know any more than you do. Besides, I’d probably never hear the end of it from Night, he would have a fit if he knew our friend got hurt while I did nothing to help.” I honestly didn’t know what happened. One second, I’m trying to reach Night, the next, I hit the giant dog in the head with a pipe.
The dog’s growl was brought to our attention as Mikane got up with a grin and cracking his knuckles, “Okay, let’s take down that tie-dyed dog down and get Grei!”
Before it attacked again, a familiar voice spoke up, “That’s enough, Sparky.” It stopped in its tracks and ran towards Night, who was very much awake and healthy.
“Grei, look out!” Mikane yelled.
When the dog had reached Night, it licked him in the face. We ran over to them and I asked Night, “Okay, what’s going on?”
“I planned this so you two can be friends. A normal situation would have taken a lot more time, but this way it’s faster and Sparky gets to come here.”
Who’s Sparky?” Mikane asked.
Lightning wrapped around the dog and from it appeared a small yellow greenish puppy with yellow zigzag patterns on its paws. It looked at me and Mikane and jumped into Night’s arms, and barked, “This is Sparky. Her name is Sparkette, but I think Sparky is cuter. She’s my pet, a Lightning Demon.”
Mikane walked up to Night and Sparky and held his hand out to Sparky, “Hey, I’m Taiga Mikane, I’m sorry about bef- OWW!!” He yelled when Sparky bit his arm, and growled something close to words.
I turned to Night when he translated, “Sparky says, “I don’t care if you’re sorry, you’re going to pay for hitting me in the face.” And turned to me, “ “And you too, demon seeing boy, this is for hitting me on the head with a lead pipe! Now dance!””
Sparks appeared at my feet, making me jump, “What the?! Ouch!”
Night just watched and laughed, “Like I said, Sparky’s a Lightning Demon, so even in this form, she generate electricity. You two really shouldn’t have hit her in the face.”
“NOW YOU GIVE US THIS WARNING!!!” Mikane and I yelled at Night as I jumped from the sparks and Mikane tried to shake Sparky off his arm.
Night just laughed as he watched what was going on for a few more minutes, “Sparky, that’s enough. I think you played enough.” The sparks died down and Sparky latched off of Mikane to hop onto Night’s head. “Okay, time for one more surprise, I hope you don’t pass out from shock, Taiga. Kain, I’ll show you what the other marks are.”
As he said that, Night released his wings and tail, Mikane and I gasped, the reason I did was that he had another pair of wings, unlike the black devil wings, the other one had pure white feathery angel wings. Mikane unconsciously reached to touch the angel wings, “Beautiful.” He muttered until he remembered what was going on, “Oh sorry. Why do you have wings and a tail anyway? What are you really, Grei?”
Before he answered I did in his place, “Night is the 95th Demon King. From what I know he’s half devil and the other half is-”
“Angel, right?”
“Yep! I’m half angel and half devil.” Night said as he walked behind me and hugged me while his tail wrapped around Mikane’s stomach. “Okay, hang on tight. We’re flying over to Tokyo Tower.” And took off.
In a few seconds were in the sky, and I yelled at him, “What are you doing, Night?! I told you, you can’t fly in broad daylight!! What if someone were to see you?!”
“Kain, it’s nighttime now, and Tokyo Tower is the best place to see the Blue Moon. And celebrate you two becoming friends.”
When we had reached Tokyo Tower, I had to admit that Night was right, it feels as though you could touch the moon. Night spoke after a little while, “Taiga, I’ve wanted to do this for a while, so if it’s alright?”
“Sure, what is it?” Mikane asked, and was hugged by Night, who was petting the sides of his head.
“So cute!! Your hair looks like cat ears, so adorable!”
Mikane blushed, and replied, “You can see them? I thought I was seeing things.”
“I’m a Demon King, and this is too cute to miss.”
I gave a questioning look, and Sparky explained, “Grei has a big soft spot for animals. He considers any animal cute no matter the form, personally I don’t see why he thinks that tomcat is so cute though.” She said with a doggy huff.
“Oh I see-YOU CAN TALK?!” I practically yelled.
“I don’t see why you’re so surprised, you and cat boy can see me, I’m a strong demon, of course I’d be able to talk.”
“You do have a point.”
I took off my glasses and sure enough, Mikane really did have hair that looked similar to cat ears. Night had given him a pin, but unlike mine, it was a pair of angel wings with a gold halo overlapping them. A voice echoed out, “So this is where you have been hiding, Grei.”
Night froze and sounded sheepish, “Hi Ryuuji, what are you doing here?” He said as a man appeared out of nowhere in midair, his clothes were similar to the ones Night wore the day he’d arrived with wavy reddish brown hair and emerald green eyes. From the way Night reacted meant they knew each other.
“You hid here this whole time, and never told me or your brothers.”
“But I told Aunt Sear, and kept in touch with Kei, he said it was fine since there was nothing wrong.”
“You know those two are secretive involving you. I thought it was strange when I saw Sparkette wander outside of the castle last night. Just be glad I didn’t tell Sei that you were hiding in the human world this whole time.”
Night flew up and grabbed his arm, “Please don’t tell Big Brother. He’s going to come here, and he’s already busy enough.”
The man known as Ryuuji just sighed, “Fine, I won’t tell him you were hiding here for a year, and if I did, Sei won’t speak to me for a year for not watching you.”
Ryuuji turned to Mikane and I and bowed, “I apologize, Grei’s friends, for the trouble he may have caused in the year I wasn’t here. He was more difficult to find than I thought, oh right, I didn’t introduce myself. My name is Ryuuji Daggcaster, just like my name states, I am a dragon man. I am Grei’s guardian.”
“He’s also Big Brother’s friend.” Night added.
Mikane asked, “Why did you look for him over the year?”
“He sort off left the Demon World abruptly, Grei had his little brother worried and throwing our kingdom into a frenzy, after a while he calmed down, I suppose that’s from Grei contacting Kei.”
Ryuuji held onto Night’s hand as gave us a bow goodbye, “We shall see you tomorrow, it was a pleasure meeting you.”
“Bye Kain, Taiga! I’ll see you at school!” He waved as he flew off along with Ryuuji.
We waved as well until we realized something, but it was too late, they were already out of sight, “WAIT, WHAT ABOUT US?!”
“Do you think I should transport them home, they must be tired.” Night said flying along with Ryuuji.
“You spent too much power as is, you know that you lose more energy if you bring out both wings.”
“Don’t worry Ryuuji, I kept plenty of energy in the choker, so I’m fine.”
“That’s all in good, but I’m afraid I’ll have to tell brothers of you using your wings.”
“That’s so mean, Jiji!”
“I’m not old!”
